How do I get sub 15 on 3x3?

I found that really slowing down my solve and trying to analyze moves helped me make solutions more efficient. I had 70-75 move solutions. Now I'm around 55-65. What it does is train your brain to see fewer move solutions, and then it becomes habit even during a speedsolve. If I concentrate on it I can get consistent 45-50 move solutions.

I average 15-16 seconds and lately I've had a few sub-15 averages, some of these tips have all been heard before, but they may help you:

cross: 8 moves or less, plan it in your head. If it's easy look for an x cross or at least a corner piece. If it's hard and difficult to plan out just execute it as quick as possible. You won't find an F2L piece here anyway so there's no point turning slow. While you execute look for a corner.

F2L: Nothing much here, turning slow still rules the roost, but now move efficiency is still important. You can have perfect lookahead, but with bad movecount on each pair you could drop a few seconds off what you might think was a fast solve. Lately I've been trying to get Cross + F2L down in sub-9 seconds, because my LL is pretty poor, for others Sub-10/11 will probably be good enough if you know one-look or are pretty nifty at your algs.

OLL: You don't need full OLL for sub-15, although I must say I get a few sub-15 solves when an easy case pops up. Nevertheless if you can predict both OLL's in 2LOLL then you eliminate the pauses which may occur if you learnt one look. By now you should be good enough at 2LOLL to have adopted this.

PLL: Here I struggle, recog is hell. it's easy to recognize some cases like J perms, H perms etc. But others like R perms give me hell. Execute them as fast as you can ofc, but prectice execution + RECOG and try to get that down to sub 3. Maybe have a friend cuber give you a random PLL and start the timer the moment you see the cube. Some timers even give you a random PLL without giving away the alg.

My breakdown target for sub 15 are:
Sub-3 cross
Sub-6 F2L
Sub-3 OLL
Sub-3 PLL

As you can see, as long as the F2L is good then you don't need to rely on your LL so much. If you're faster at LL then you can play around and find a breakdown which better suits you.

Hey guys, i use the full CFOP method in rubik cube and i have been stuck on 16 second averages for quite some time now... like 8-9 months... please advise me on how to get sub 15 solves please?? what am i doing wrong??

f2l efficiency
look ahead
good oll pll algs
1loll would help
dont be afraid to turn faster, you can always work on look ahead whilst turning fast, getting your eye used to looking ahead whilst turning fast
good luck, it what helped me

So first of all, please don't look at my bad English ;)

The most important thing to get faster is to know how to practice. It took me less than a year to get sub 10, with not more than 70 solves every day, because:

It's very difficult, but you have to recognize your mistakes and try to do it better next time. For example if I've learned a better solution for one f2l case from YouTube and I do it wrong in the solve, I reverse it, just to solve it the right way. Sometimes this ruins your averages, but that is a fast way to improve.

Slowturning is also really important !

I haven't been cubing for half a year now, but today I started again. ( I switched to Roux half a year ago)
When I started, my average was somewhere at 14 seconds, after some solves i got better and the AO50 was 13,13 I think, the next AO50 was 12,81, the next 12,46 ( I started with cold Hands, but the last times saved the average) and the last AO50 was 11,64. Now I really feel comfortable with Roux :D

Try improving your lookahead by doing slow turning. maybe learn faster algs or find better ways to execute them.

Just read through this and it definitely helped psych myself up again. Seeing all the old posts of people with the same thoughts as me, then seeing their sigs with nice sub-15 averages. I actually got PB ao5/12/100 after reading this, just because I saw a glimmer of hope :)

How to Sub-15?

I know my F2L cases pretty well, and I am working on OLL I currently know 37/57 of the OLL's and I know full PLL.

What should I do to consistently Sub-15? Should I start turning faster than before?

I average around 17-18secs.

My current average times for each step:

Cross:1-2secs
F2L: 8-10secs
OLL: 2-4secs (4-7 secs for 2-look)
PLL: 2-3secs

How long did it take for you guys to sub-15?

I'm most certainly not an expert, but I would say that you should practice F2L. You say you know your cases pretty well, but Feliks, Mats, and other fast CFOP users know them even better. Also, finishing OLL (at your own pace) probably wouldn't hurt, as it would improve your consistency by eliminating the 4-7 sec 2-Look cases.

Also, do you think you could post the individual times for cross and F2L?

+1 To the post below. Look-ahead helps a lot

Practice your F2L. Faster LL could help too. I'm not sub 15 I average 18. I improve slowly. Learn more OLL. I know 53. Turning faster doesn't mean faster times. Look a head. Try to decrease pauses.

In conclusion go slow and look ahead. That should help a little.

Added.
I'll get to finish OLL one day, and for my F2L cases should I try learning different more ways to insert pairs?

Practice a lot of F2L. LL should be as fast as possible, with a higher turnspeed than average.

It took me about 5 months to be sub 15.

I'd learn OLL. Over half the algs are really easy, and they'll drop your time by a few seconds from what you've said. You'll also want to get most of your PLLs sub-2. Definitely practise lookahead though.

Yeah, lol. I created this thread and remembered, still not sub 15 but that's because I haven't even practiced much... So just started back up and I bought a new cube and lube too. This definitely gave me the motivation to continue working.

Look ahead would be a good option, if your brain works like that. Mine doesn't so I don't think I'll ever be able to do look ahead.

However, I do believe that even if you change nothing about the way you solve, you will still very slowly move towards 15 seconds due to your increased efficiency that comes with experience.
