[Help Thread] Skewb Discussion

Um. Half the 2x2 rotates at a time as well.

ture. Skewb is a corner turning rather than face turn those.

So do most of the fast people use Sarah's method? Does anyone (other than him ofc) use Ranzha's method?
I average 17-18. My tps is so bad. I use either Ranzha or Sarah's. If I get a welders mask after making a layer. I use Ranzha's.

I think to be fast at Skewb you would use a method like Kirmeep, Sarah's or Ranzha's with lots of tricks and stuff. To help with 1 look last layer? What should the group of cases when a layer is solves be called? Has it already got a term for it?

Skewb Fingertricks

Hello, first post lol

anyway, i was wondering if you could share some good fingertricks for doing the sledgehammer and the hedgeslammer on the skewb.
I just started, and using Sarah's method, but my turning is awkward. Also, I saw what she does in her video tutorial but a more indepth and varied explanation would be helpful.
Thanks in advance

Skewb definition files for ksolve+

I remember alg generation was a nightmare when Meep and I started - this is a lot easier.

Thank you so much! :D

I'll make a video for this. I'd suggest others who can perform the sledgie and hedgie well make a video too. I'm interested in seeing how others perform it.

edit:
Here you go. I just did it in one take, so the explanations aren't well spoken, but hopefully it's understandable enough.

What are the equivalents on Skewb of sub20/15/10 on 3x3?

I think sub 15/10/5 could be a close parallel to your listed ones..
Eventually times will get closer to pyraminx ones and could be used as a reference..

I have a feeling it will be lower than that. I use a blatantly beginner's method (make a face, then use just 2 algs plus 2 variants on those algs to solve the rest - 4 algs to learn total), and I average sub-15. Sub-20 is difficult on 3x3x3. Sub-15 is not difficult on skewb even with a beginner's method.

If I had to guess, I'd guess sub-20/15/10 on 3x3x3 will be equivalent to sub-10/7.5/5 on skewb. That's for averages; singles are easier (relative to averages) on skewb than on 3x3x3.

I agree with Mike, but I'd put it more 12/9/6

Once ShenShou/MoYu/DaYan/new company release a good skewb and more methods are developed, I could see WR average being sub 5, and faster. Look where Pyra is today. Maybe in 3 years skewb will be almost comparable.

I could see them doing something like this to there Skewb mechs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2rqaZpvSMA and I have done it to mine and it really works.

that's great :D thanks! ^_^ I especially liked 4:15 and 4:17 where you use your pointer to kinda pinch the skewbie downward. I'll practice this and as you said, instead of copying it, I'll try to come up with something.
Once again, thanks!

Annoying Z and H

So, the Z and H perms are really annoying to do, since i have to sledge sledge, then i get a Uperm, for which again sledge sledge.
Ive begun learning the "intermediate" variation to Sarah's method, and i am kinda getting the hang of it. I was wondering if there is any alternate way in which we can execute the Z and H perms.

Meep's site is nice for learning Last 5 Centers cases including Z and H perms.

Also, good luck competing on the 1st! :3
