Lucky solves in competition?

i have been wondering lately about an interesting topic. skips. many of us have our best times coming from some sort of skip, be it OLL or PLL, and the current WCA 3x3 world record by Mats Valk was achieved due to an OLL skip if im not mistaken. so, my inquiry was, should solve times achieved due to skips or "lucky" solves be counted in competition, or should they be required a new scramble or a +2 or any other variety of restriction?

Many skips, like OLL, can be forced with practice. Punishing somebody for better lookahead would seem illogical. Luck is part of any competition, including cubing, and I don't see a reason to punish people who are lucky.

i was thinking more about the unforced skips, so i should've probably left OLL out because of the many LL variations, but i havent seen any method to force a PLL skip? but i could very well be mistaken i suppose, given the vast majority of LL varients.

When Mats skips OLL, that isn't luck.

Funny, I spent ages thinking the WR solve was lucky, till I heard about RLS/VLS/OLS!

I guess you could say the same about PLL though, if people use COLL and get an edge skip, or (like Faz) know which ZBLL cases the 'normal' PLL algs solve.

It was R U' R'. I'd say that's some element of luck.

Yep, notice how he just solved it normally.

But wait a second, this is a really useless thread. There is no way to tell if it was forced. There is no set barrier on lucky or non lucky. Plus, from a non-cuber's perspective, we're just matching up the colors and after matching up some blocks at the beginning we happened to get some easier-to-make blocks later on. Nothing wrong, eh?

EDIT: And how exactly do we know if one was preserving pieces throughout the WHOLE F2L and they got an OLL skip from that, even if it wasn't any last slot method thingy?

EDIT2: No, it being ridiculous and near impossible is invalid of an argument. "Innocent until proven guilty." And proving to be guilty will never happen.

tl;dr: I feel really stupid saying this when I could just state that we are solving a cube, lucky or not. Redoing simply makes it solving only a certain fraction of scrambles of the cube.

Well there is ZBLL which forces a PLL skip. If you use OLLCP you will always have solved corners for PLL and that increases the chance of there being a skip. Also, many experienced speed cubers know multiple algs for some easy to recognise OLL cases which will force a skip.

Luck is part of the game. It makes it interesting. Who wants to see the same people spamming TPS and getting the same times?
