Why Central America, Mexico, USA and Canada (which are all part of the continent of North America), but then Europe as a whole? And why Australia not Australasia.

And why have an 'Other' category? You've covered 6 of the 7 continents, leaving only Antarctica.

So anyone who votes for other lives in Antarctica, right? Actually, I've checked the poll results - of the 7 'others', 2 are Kiwis, who have voted 'other' because Australia is a country, not a continent. The other 5 don't know where they live (4 Europe and 1 USA). Which makes the whole poll fairly meaningless.

Australia is an island, a country, and a continent.

island, a country, and a continent.

iffy, yes, iffy.

Australia has multiple islands. If you only include the main island then we have 1 less state for example.

Calling Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, etc part of Australia is kind of wrong. Originally, the continent was called Australia. But now it is more commonly referred to in Oceania. I tried looking up the Wikipedia article for this, but it starts by saying Australia is a continent, then later has Oceania instead of Australia.

Australia is an island, a country, and a continent.

The word continent doesn't have a standard definition. The continent of Australia only includes Australia, PNG, East Timor and a small part of Indonesia. Because it's more convenient for every country to be in a continent, it's generally preferable to use Oceania, which includes NZ and many more Pacific island countries.

No rj, it really isn't.

The continent is variously referred to as Australasia or, less commonly, Oceania.

Neither is Australia an island, it's a group of islands.

You're right about it being a country though!

I don't think the "continent" is referred to as Australasia. Over here people refer to the "continent" as Oceania, which is technically different to Australasia (Oceania includes Australasia).

(I say "continent" because technically there is no true continent in this part of the world, unless one refers to mainland Australia as a continent, but that's a stretch).

Ok cool, I guess the option in the poll should be Oceania then? That would leave only people who live in Antarctica, or on the ISS/Mir to answer 'other'.
