Has anyone done it?

Me and my friend scramble each others cubes. each person has 10 seconds to perform 5 moves in an effort to solve the cube. then they hand it over to their opponent who does any 3 moves in an effort to inhibit your solve. (M, E and S turns are legal)

it took me and my friend 30 minutes to get through one round.

idk, it's just a way to competitively cube and exercise back-tracking and spatial relationships.

i guess it would get boring if no one screwed up though.

Sounds like a fun game. Difficulty can be adjusted by modifying your time limit or the number of moves you/your opponent do.

interesting idea. will try. won't this mess up your pll's though? and oll's? You won't know how to get back to the part you were just executing...

Not really. If you get to see what your opponent is doing, you can just reverse his moves and you get to do 2 extra moves to your LL algs right?

make sure your friend cannot see can already and be honest yourself then no problem.

i find this too challenging for me. too logical

i can never complete the cube this way... my olls and plls are based on muscle memory. if somehow i stopped the oll/pll halfway, i would get lost. e.g if my cube suddenly locks up SERIOUSLY or pops, nice one, redo

actually, what would be very very competitive would be if you got unlimited time, you were allowed to make 8 moves, but your opponent was allowed to make 7.

i think there could be a strategy evolved from this, like you would memorize certain orientation patterns and then use algs to either flip them or render them in such a way that would create the most confusion. and this confusion could be determined mathematically by misorientation. in addition, in order to compete in this, you would need near photographic memory or at least a method to solve the cube in fewest moves (i would think heise, but it gets really disorganized at times and confusing)

OR--- if you don't want to think, then it would be basically an infinite loop with two kids trading unsolved cubes for probably the rest of their lives lol.

sorry, i just realized that this thread technically becomes somewhat unsuited for the board because it emphasizes "thinking" and "slow-solving" rather than "speedcubing"

Wouldn't it be more fun to scramble 5 turns on each other's cube, and first one to solve it wins? Without any other rules

Edit: Except 1 rule. You can't make a turn 'til you see solution :D

A friend of mine and I used to do something similar where he would take a solved cube and, starting at 3 or 4 turns, see how many turns he could scramble before I couldn't back track to solve the cube.

I really like this idea, though. It seems to take it one step further and add an element of a time limit to it. I'll have to try it.

Thinking your way through a puzzle is a perfectly legitimate way to solve it. Not everything has to be done as fast as possible. Puzzles were originally designed to make you think, after all.
