The Solve Critique Thread

Brest, could you give me some statistics + a reconstruction? I know I don't deserve your special treatment, but I'd love some help and you do something I don't know how to do.
I'd love a critique, by the way. I know full PLL but 2 look OLL and I used CFOP in this vid.

Do less cube rotations.

What are the weak points in my solves. (I have a video of solves)

I did a few solves with hand scrambles, I just want some advice on how to get faster, currently averaging 34ish seconds I would like to get sub-30.

I use 4Look LL with a few extra pll's and for the permuting edges I use a t-perm instead of the beginners method a-perm because it works better for me.

Learning look ahead isn't working, i'm really bad at learning it, wasn't trying it very much in this video, but wasn't turning my fastest either.

Anyone who can help me would be great.

Cube-dayan zhanchi stickerless with the torpedos removed, I like the feel better w/o torpedos.

Other information- I've been cubing for just under 2 months.

You are making a good effort to be continuous and look ahead which is good so keep it up. :tu

Cross: You used inspection wisely to plan your cross out. I noticed you had a few gaps while you were doing your cross so try to eliminate that. The next step would be to be more efficient and increase TPS a bit.

Transition to F2L: definitely could be improved on, try to track the first pair as your doing cross so you know exactly where they are

F2L: pairs could be done more efficiently, try just doing some hand scrambles and going very slow (not timed) and trying to find efficient/faster ways to solve certain pairs, watching walkthrough solves from people faster than you will really help, your slow turning is making your look ahead pretty decent so keep it that way atm

OLL & PLL: all algs so all I can say is slowly learn your PLLs and make sure you learn the ones that you find the most comfortable not just the one you find first, increase TPS

ps: I only watched your first solve

Yeah, i'm really bad at cross, is the best way to practice it really just to do blindfolded cross's?

Yeah, my transition is a several second delay.

Thanks for your help, I think the first solve was the weakest out of them.

These solves look wayyyyyy better than my solves did when I was averaging 30, so that makes me think you'll improve pretty quickly. Other than what mushroomhead said, I'd say work on PLL recognition, and try to eliminate those pauses. Do lots of sighted solves, and try to slowly increase your TPS without losing the lookahead you have.

Uploaded a couple of weeks ago, tips please :)

Your TPS looks good, and you have learned your algs pretty well.
It looks like you're really trying to force some turns, especially in the F2L. This is hindering your lookahead because your cube is kind of flying around and rotating while you're inserting a pair and then you pause and look lost.
You also have a lot of y and y' during F2L. I like to pay attention to edge orientation to cut down on cube rotations.
Finally, practice your OH crosses. Pay particular attention to the ergonomics of your moves; I tend to use lots of wide turns to get around the cube without regripping, but to each his own.

Thanks a lot! I do need to improve my steadiness like you said. And my crosses do suck, working on that as well :)

I know the video quality isn't great, but I'd really appreciate some critique.

Method: ZZ-Porky v1 with phasing.
On the second solve I did the 2GLL from the wrong angle, and on the last solve I recognised CP wrong (which I rarely do) and then failed the last slot. But this average was mostly normal.
Any tips?

Less table abuse at the start of solves. Try to find best angle to start with... don't limit orientation but use whatever is most fingertrickable. Less pausing would help too.

But table abuse is fun :( You're right though. I use the table because keeping it in the same orientation helps me know where misoriented edges are - I still can't plan EO in inspection some of the time. I'll practise lookahead, as I often don't even try for OH (idk why), but there are a few parts where that's difficult (CP and phasing).

I have practiced ZZOH. I'm ok at ZZ but not pro. Are you able to plan EO(Line) for 2H? I guess I would give the same advice to CFOPers trying to do cross... take all the time you need to plan and then do EOLine (just EO at first if EOLine is too hard) blindfolded. At least you should be able to do this with 2H first... then you can do the same with OH too.

Practice some ZZ 2H and untimed. Better 2H times and overall efficiency will translate to better ZZOH times.
Also, if you can't plan EO, don't limit your inspection. Plan out the entire EO and then start the solve.

I'll try giving myself more inspection then. I don't ever use ZZ 2H, but I'll practise that and see how it goes. Thanks.
