How fast are you? I agree with cyoubx, you can't have good look ahead unless you know your F2L cases so well it's automatic. In fact, his look ahead video on it is the only one that helped me at all. So if you're sup-30 (or even faster than that) working on look ahead probably won't yield all that much progress. But ultimately, look ahead is absolutely necessary for fast times. You can get fast times while turning slowly. You can't say the same for no look ahead.

Full TPS or Look-Ahead?

Ok guys, its my biggest problem that i have. Im getting confused durings solves, should i turn insanely quickly or slowdown and lookahead ?

I know slowing down and look ahead is always best way but after a while its not really best way to get faster. I mean, im slowing down and look ahead but its not really enough to exceed sub-12! Im trying to solve with Full TPS , and im screwing up my solves. Im solving slowly and having 12.xx many times but no improvement. Really im at 12 seconds whole summer lol, and no improvement despite a lot of solves. I really don't know how to get faster , Please i really need some advices and hope.

My slow solves avg of 100: 12.27
My full TPS solves avg of 100: 12.86

(Im getting confused :fp )

look ahead

ps i have the same problem ur having, and we average about the same too. and looking ahead with no pause can eventually get you to turn full speed without slowing down, and that is when you will break the barrier,

im having truble breaking dat barrier too.

Go as fast as you can while still looking ahead. Or maybe a little faster than that to practice. Since you can turn faster than you can lookahead, your goal should be to improve your lookahead, so you can turn as fast as you can without pausing. Then your "full TPS" times should be quite a bit under 12.27.

Yes , its hardest thing: Adjusting your speed in parallel with your look ahead.

But when i practice, should i solve fast to improve my TPS or slow to improve my look-ahead. or If i solve the cube with only Full TPS, my look-ahead will improve more quickly or slowly?

Im really looking for a good way to exceed that barrier :(

Apparently Feliks does most of his practice solves slow these days, so if you're eventually looking to break the 7.5 average barrier... ;)

Practice is just the process of gaining experience. It's that experience that allows you to improve.

In other words, you need to gain experience doing the thing you want to improve at, and if you're not actually doing it, you're not experiencing it.

So if you want to improve at look ahead, you need to actually look ahead. That means slow down to a point where you can actually look ahead. However, if you slow down too much to the point of it being trivial for you, then you are only experiencing something you are already able to do. To continue improving you need to practice in such a way that you are experiencing things that are just beyond what you already can do easily. This is just a simple way of describing deliberate practice.

In your case this basically means turn fast enough that you are not looking ahead successfully 100% of the time, but pretty close.

If you turn so fast that you are not able to look ahead at all, then you are not experiencing it, and will not improve. If you turn so slow that you can look ahead without effort, then you are not experiencing something with room for improvement, and will not improve. Design your practice sessions in such a way that you are always in the middle ground between those two.

Worry about TPS when you get to a point where you can't turn faster than you can look ahead.

Turn just slow enough to be able to efficiently look ahead.
And once you're comfortable with solving that way, just turn just a little bit faster and see if you can still look ahead very well. Keep doing that until WR single or something.

My slow solves avg of 100: 12.27
My full TPS solves avg of 100: 12.86

How wonderful!
Unnecessary, don't click!

It's that experience that allows you to improve.

I like this, and not just because it reminded me of Pokemon games.

I was told to slow down...

Hello!
Ok, so a few weeks ago, I asked what to do to improve my time, as I was around a 40 second solver, and I was told to slow down.. so I took a few days with no timer, and slowed down on f2l, and it helped.. for a little... so, right away it dropped my time around 33-34 avg... which is good... but recently.. like in the last week.. slowing down seems to just take longer than going fast... not just seems like.. the timer is proof that it does slow me down.. my average right now is 30s... with a best of 18s... but every time I try to slow down my time jumps up about 3-4 seconds.. it is hindering me more than helping, so, should I keep going slow? Or keep my speed how it is?

Slowing down helps lookahead. Lookahead is when you look at the next F2L pieces to solve while you're solving the previous pair, and helps for a smoother solve with less pauses. This in turn decreases your times because there are less pauses. Lookahead takes a while to 'train', so keep practicing turning slower and your times should decrease with practice.

I know what lookahead is... I am not the best at it, but I am half decent...
