The Solve Critique Thread

13.91 3x3 Average of 5:

Tips? I would critique someone but all the posts are either faster than me or from a long time ago :/
ZZ btw.
Nice slow turning. Speed up a little more on algorithms tho. Also make sure you always use the U2 double trigger and not U U or U' U'. Yeah you can probably work on just turning a little faster throughout the solve, your lookahead looks good.

Thanks. I'll try to turn faster without losing too much lookahead. Maybe practice algs or something.

Am I Good?

I just wanted to know if I'm good enough. I average 23 secs. And sorry for video as it was my first and I was using my laptop's webcam.

I don't understand why you would post a video that lags so much and is in such terrible lighting that we can't analyze your solve. It would probably be better to go and post a reconstruction or just a TEXT example solve in the example solve thread. We can't help you by watching the video. You could also, you know, post what method you're using, because some of us actually use methods other than CFOP.

R U OK ben? You didn't mention his sig :0

roxer if you are cubing to be fast in other people's eyes you are cubing for the wrong reasons. Cubing should be about breaking your own barriers and having fun

EDIT: White writing is white on my iPad, but a little grey on my PC
EDIT2: But black is black

I'm sorry I don't see how someone who averages 23 seconds gets a 5.5, LL skip or not.

a) you hand scrambled terribly
b) you made it up
c) it was real and very very lucky and I'm just being an ass
and you have an 18 second LL, and have better F2L than most sub-20 cubers. I don't like liars

Reason C would be basically impossible: His LL would take like 18 seconds, with a 5.5 second F2L

Never ask vaguely if you are good at something in a place filled with so many people qualified to say "No." You shouldn't be looking for others' opinions of how 'good' you are, when everybody has their own ever-changing idea of what that word even means in the context of cubing.

I average 23s for 3x3, and 5.5 is a good 2x2 time for me. Are you sure you don't mean 15.5?
You also ask if you're "good enough". For what? If you're going to a competition and want to get past the first round, you should probably be aiming for sub-20.

I suggest you watch as many videos as you can on YouTube in order to gain speed. You should also get a better camera. If you want us to analyze your solve and give productive comments, we need to be able to see it ;)

Also you should try not to lie too much about PB's. There are many world class cubers here who will spot a porkie pie in an instant. Be honest, and you will find things much more pleasant and constructive :)

Good luck now, and have fun!

Billy

So, I've been cubing for a little more than a 2 months, and I always get a sub 30 avg. My cross usually takes me 3 seconds and my F2L averages around 12 seconds with 2.5-3 tps. But, I use 4LLL and Im wondering if my last layer is really slow. It takes me 12-14 seconds for me to finish the OLL and PLL. Any tips on how to speed up?

Also, I've attempted being white/yellow color neutral, and my recognition just gets completely messed up, so I've gone back to just doing white. Is it really worth being color neutral?
