So, me and my friends had a good time discussing the idea of a cubing video game. mostly it's a joke, but I think it actually sounds kind of fun. So, here's what it would be like. First off, EA Sports would be the peeps that make the game ('cause it's gotta be big) and you'd start out making a character, and your person would start out with a Rubiks brand cube, in order to use nicer cubes you have to unlock them and then make money by winning competitions or something to buy the cube. So after a Rubiks, you might use a diy, then maybe an alpha v, ghosthand or whatever and work your way up to a guhong or a zhanchi. Your character would have attributes much like in madden, such as Lookahead, Recognition, Turning Speed, Inspection, and maybe even sub categories of speed, like cross speed, f2l speed, oll speed and pll speed, and then maybe oll recognition and pll recognition. there would be more attributes than that though. it would be on a 1 to 99 scale. And characters like feliks zemdegs in the game would have 100 lookahead much like devin hester has 100 speed in one of the madden games, even though you can't get your characther to 100. Your character wouldn't just be stuck with fridich, you'd start off with beginners, and you could go down the petrus or roux path if you wanted too. When picking your attributes, you would maybe get 100 or 150 points to dived among the 5 to 10 attributes.
The gameplay would be depending on your inspection skill, at the top of the screen it's say cross: X, B, Y, Y, R trigger. or something like that. and so when the solve starts you do that as fast as you can to get the cross, and depending on recognition time another thing would appear that say First F2L pair, Y, B, A, A, B, R trigger, Y. you'd do that as fast you can and carry on with the entire solve. Your character after accomplishing challenges or something, may learn more olls. So you'd have a thing somewhere on the stat menu, like the stats page or something that says olls known, 33/57 for example. even if you know 'em in real life it doesn't matter. if it came up on the game and your character didn't know it you'd have to use 2 look. and a challenge might be like a race against someone or your character goes downtown and has to impress somebody to get money to go to a comp or buy cubes with. and it's say to get x amount of money you must solve under 27 seconds to impress so and so. and then there could even be online comps and stuff.
i know it sounds pretty stupid, when you can do it in real life, but hell i'd play it!

Yeah, totally! the game has a lot of shaping if it would ever become real, but I think it's got potential! and online comps would be fun.

That sounds awesome! I have contemplated this idea many times before but never thought of it quite like that lol. My main problem was how the actual solve would be completed due to the fact an xbox controller or whatever only has so many buttons. But you found a perfect solution. I would definitely buy that game lol.

i think it would take an already experienced speedcuber to go through this video game, and i can't imagine a newbie actually playing this or learning anything from it.
and for a speedcuber, it'd be more of a playthrough/speedrun rather than enjoying the game to its full potential.

i'd like it, but i don't think many non-speedcubers will.

Not sure if you knew about this or not but

I only recently heard of it. Totally different concept than your idea though.

I saw this today at a store, and that's what got a friend and I to start talking about it in the first place.

Well, the idea behind is, you don't have to know how to solve it. all you're doing during a solve is pushing the buttons it tells you to. so anyone could do it. But i agree, noncubers probably wouldn't get any enjoyment from it, and I also acknowledge that it wouldn't sell well at all. Just a fun idea!

In expert mode you would have to know how to solve it. Controls are pretty simple. X, Y, A, B, R1 and L1 for faceturns. Hold L2 for invers and R2 for doublelayer. Sticks for rotation.

Sounds awful, would not play. However, if there was a fully functioning rubiks cube controller, and a 'rubiks hero' type game, might be pretty cool i guess, as a learning aid.
