I have a fun challenge for the cubing brainiacs out there. I received a novelty cube as a gift recently. I'm able to solve it all except for one re-occurring case that I am unable to find a solution to, except for when I simply get lucky.
Instead of the normal colour scheme, each side of this 3x3 has the emblem of one NHL team on it. Once I've solved it, the centers are always off because on a solid coloured cube it doesn't matter what position the centers are in relative to all the other pieces of the same face. I've managed to get 5 of the six centers to match it's respective sides but when i'm solving the last step of CFOP I am unable to influence the last center of the top face to complete the entire cube!
How could I rotate one center by 90 degrees without affecting the rest of the cube??
