My first Speed Cube!!!

when should i move to a 2x2 or 4x4? or should i wait till i get sub 40?

Anytime. 2x2x2 is easy. It's just a corners only 3x3x3 :-P

You can start 4x4x4 anytime too. If you use a reduction method, you wont be at much of a disadvantage with 40 second 3x3x3 solve times. Sure, if you look at world records maybe, but don't let that discourage you.

And tim what cube do you use?

Store-bought Rubik's Cube (made in China 2005):
- sanded, filed, and lubed with CRC 808
- it never pops
- it rarely locks up
- it turns smoothly
- it cuts corners easily

I also use an Old Black Type A DIY from time to time:
- sanded, filed, and lubed with CRC 808
- it never pops
- it rarely locks up
- it turns better than the previously mentioned cube
- it doesn't cut corners well (on a rating of 1 to 10, 10 being the store bought cubes ability to cut corners, and 1 being a crappy Famwealth cube, I'd give it a 3)

I gave away the second newest Type D with new A core:
- lubed with CRC 808
- it never pops
- it locks up almost once in every solve
- it's the smoothest of the bunch
- it doesn't cut corners well

I've some other DIYs but I haven't bothered spending much time trying to set the tension in such a way that the cube wont pop, yet turns smoothly and doesn't lockup.

I can't remember what method that is. But I'd hazard a guess that it's something along the lines of:
- Layer By Layer
- Form a Cross
- Insert Corners
- Insert Edges
- Make a Cross
- Make a "fishie"
- Do Sune to make the top face solid
- Use T or J permutation to permute the LL corners
- Use U permutation to permute the LL edges

Well, that's how I try to teach beginners....

That guy is Dan Brown, or pogobat on YouTube. His tutorial is the most popular Rubik's Cube related YouTube video, and has over 6 million views on the Part One version.

The method he teaches was made by Dan Knights, 2003 World Champion.

I don't like that method too much. It teaches you too solve the first layer on the top, which is easy to leran but isn't too fast.

Then the last layer is very long...and the recognition is difficult for permuting...

lol, I haven't learned half of the Fridrich method x.x

Still sub30. I'm understanding more and more where algorithms need to be improved though. I'm not sure if some people that learn Fridrich straight up just take some of the algorithms for granted *shrug*

well once im sub-30 i would try to go for 10-15 sec. or to answer you Q. this is just a hobby somthing to do when im done with my home work or back from work i dont like T.V. and i dont go on my moms laptop that much so im ussally bored out of my mind so i started to speed cube :D also once i get sub 30 it would be kick@ss showing off to ppl >.<

Are you guys on crack? I've never heard anyone say it's nerdy to solve a rubik's cube, only impressive/clever
