My first Speed Cube!!!

Most DIYs are awesome, but personally I wouldn't recommend a new Type A as a main cube. It locks up quite a lot. But still, if you break it in and get used to how it turns (the little tabs on the edge pieces lock up the cube quite a lot) it feels pretty darn nice. Also, it's very light.

If you think your cube is giving you problems (locking up), I highly recommend to get an old type A or a type D (preferably with a Type A core). But don't rush to get one now! Learn some finger tricks, and train your reaction times. Using your fingers to turn is WAY, WAY, faster than using your wrists. Wait until your times are around 40s, then think about getting a new cube.

Oh, have you lubed your cube? Use silicone spray if you haven't. Nothing else.

I wouldn't consider myself a professional speedcuber, but I hope my tips help. :)

I always stick to the old type a DIY's. I haven't tried any others and I'm not buying another type unless I can try it for myself.

hey when and if i put the tabs on it can i take it off? it sounds like the tabs are the only thing making the cube suck. but if i can i would want to try it with and with out. but if it does suck with or with out i bet its still way better then what im using! any way thanks cube fan

I put on the tabs, and it's reasonably good. Definitely better than a storebought, but still the worst DIY I've ever used. While the tabs enable you to make the entire cube VERY loose without the centre pieces popping, the tabs are the same reason the cube locks up so much. With every advantage there is a disadvantage.

But, without the tabs, I think they're almost as good as any other DIY, only a lot more hollow (and thus a lot lighter).

It's still tolerable, just not amazing.

The cubes are pretty good without putting on the tabs. You're fine. It's a decent cube. At least it will be better than your current cube.

www.cube4you.com, www.cubefans.com, and www.9spuzzles.com are good websites to get cubes.

And cubesmith has very durable stickers and tiles that are MUCH MUCH better than storebought stickers. Most people buy from there.

DcF1337 does it cut corners well without the tabs?

Don't worry. For a beginner, a DIY will take some time to get used to. Watch plenty of DIY cube-related videos. How to assemble, how to adjust tension, etc. A DIY cube will take ALOT of getting used to, but I guarantee, it's worth it. DIYs are so much better.

The New Type A is especially hard to assemble. It's like you're jumping from beginner directly to advanced. When you get it, go slow. And since you're a beginner, I highly recommend that you avoid the tabs completely first.

Do take note that there are 2 types of New Type A. The older version, which isn't for sale anymore, and the new version of New Type A, which completely replaced the older type although it appears as the same item on Cube4you. When you watch videos on Youtube that teach you how to assemble the New Type A, don't be surprised if the pieces in the video look quite different from the pieces that you get. Don't worry, you can still assemble the cube the same way. The changes aren't that much.

Your questions:

1. Cube4you is pretty much the best. :D

2. I don't know about their stickers, but their tiles are awesome and very high quality. They're still perfect to this day. But I decided to stop buying from them as I live quite far from them and the shipping is quite expensive. I'm just fine with Cube4you's PVC stickers.

Err, I only twisted the cube for a few seconds before I proceeded to superglue all the tabs in. I'm not entirely sure, but yeah, it was pretty normal. It didn't impress me as my Old Type A was much better than that. I thought, "What's the point of buying such an expensive DIY if I don't use it as what it's supposed to be? It's supposed to be used with tabs." So I put the tabs in quite immediately after that.

what ? wouldent a type d and a core A be bad? becuse the diy cube is a d not a A?
TRANSLATION:
what ? wouldn't a type [d] with a type [a] core be bad? because the diy cube is a type [d] not a type [a]

the type [d] core is bad. So if you swap it for a type [a] core it should be much better. When my package finally arrives I'm going to test it out for myself. I think that the type [a] core gives it more corner cutting ability and makes it lock up less

I think I'm answering the question... ? :p
