Cube and solve method you'd recommend

wow :D Thanks guyz! I really appreciate it! I'll check the methods you recomended and then decide which one to really commit to :D
Cube wise I'll get a Dayan ;)

Edit: what do you believe is the best method for speed and algorithms ratio. Least number of algorithms to memorize for a fast solve.

Methods don't have speeds. All methods can be equally fast, depending on the CUBER.
As for algs, ZZ definitely has the least out of the "big 4" methods (ZZ, roux, cfop, petrus), but you do 2 algs per solve. Roux would be next - more algs, but only 1 alg per solve.
ZZ has 28 algs
Roux has 42 algs
Petrus (if you're doing it "properly", i.e., CLL -> ELL instead of OLL -> PLL) has 46 algs.
CFOP has 78 algs

CFOP is a good method especially coming from the LBL background. Since the concept of CFOP is just compressed beginner LBL, it's really to get into the CFOP mindset. Block building method often take some more willpower to break the beginner LBL mindset so the transition from, say, CFOP to a block building method such as Roux will be somewhat more difficult but not impossible. It doesn't mean that you'll necessarily "suck" at other methods, just slow to advance.

You can also look into alg count if you are concerned about that. But I suggest you don't. While starting out 20 something algs can be intimidating, but you can learn on your pace. I did 7 algs a day for CMLL with Roux, which I thought was very very doable.

As for people that say methods "suck," you shouldn't take the their word for it until you really REALLY try it out yourself. Like full blown tried learning and solving with it.

As for cube, well, that's personal preferences. You may like a fast smooth cube, or controllable, clicky cube. Doesn't matter what people say to get, just get one and if you don't like it get another one. Trial and error.

beginner LBL sucks definately though....
and since blockbuilding is reaaaly practical for everything, its probably best to start out wit ha blockbuildign method. transition to cfop can be made always, since there is no thinking involved.
i believe

Is that the method's fault or the solver's fault?

In my opinion for me it was more so my own fault but at least a small bit the methods fault. For nearly two years I used straight CFOP with 3 look last layer and during this time whenever I tried to learn algorithms and methods, I approached it in a very narrow view which I believe hindered me. CFOP does not encourage very much intuition at all which I believe hinders you for other methods.

But I am in the process of trying to get out of this mindset which is going well as find myself looking more for blocks rather than pairs even when I do CFOP.

Seeing as you already know the LBL method, the next step would be to learn CFOP. However, you should experiment with other methods ( roux, zz, petrus) and see what you like best. I personally know all 4 of the major methods and while I'm fastest with CFOP, I have a lot of fun with roux or zz. All these methods are capable of achieving sub 20 times it just comes down to which you enjoy most.

Well said. Definitely pays to know all four.
