Well, first off: I´m probably old enough to be the father to quite a few of you. Started with the cube 4 weeks ago between diaperchanges and taking the oldest to daycare.

One month ago I Saw this girl on a train, way out in the outbacks of sweden, she solved the cube in what seemed like 45 seconds. When I came home I googled and found Badmephistos beginners guide, excellent stuff. Now I average about 1:30 on my newly arrived Zangchi.

Cross, 2 look OLL and PLL workes fine, but the F2L takes forever. Seems I spend alot of time taking edges out of slots and splitting pairs...

I started cubing as a sort of past time and a "personal bet" kind of thingy. I´m on maternityleave until august, and promised myself that I should be sub 1 minute on the cube before that. Enjoy reading your discussions on this forum.

Any tips/guides for cutting the time on F2L would be kindly recieved.

Oh, and I´m swedish. Live in Stockholm. Gardener and Pomologist by profession. Reckon some of you will have to google Pomologist. :)

Hi!

Those F2L videos explain things pretty well. I had the same issue you're having; I was splitting pairs that I had already put into position. I watched the videos several times before I fully understood what they were trying to tell me. After that, no more splitting. You might just want to watch them another few times to make sure you're not missing any of the information.

Regards,

H.

Pomologist...who else read something different on first glance?

Welcome!

Nice to see another cuber-dad here.
I’m actually wondering who’s the oldest in this thread?
You, Bapao (35) or me (37)?

Just take your time for F2L, no need to rush it.
Badmephisto’s youtube channel and website are a great place to start for the CFOP method.

You may also want to take a look at some other methods like Petrus and Roux and see which one you like best.
In the wiki you will find more info on methods.

And congratulations on your username!

Must admit I was surprised when it was free. Maternityleave, or whatever it´s called in english, Daddyleave? I´m 37 aswell!

Slow down look ahead. Watch a few more vids and you'll be fine.
DONT! Watch advance f2l videos,It'll only confuse you.

Anyway WELCOME!

Welcome, I am the same age as you as well. When you first learn F2L you will be very slow but as you practice and develop your look ahead your times will drop very quickly. I would encourage you to look at the wiki for cases that take you a long time. Also, consider the wiki for OLL/PLL cases as well since you may find one that is easier/faster for you to execute.

Welcome :) I'm currently working on Roux, but when I first learned CFOP, I was struggling with F2L too. I was trying to do it using tutorials and remember cases, and then realised it would be easier to just understand how it's done. I ended up doing it more intuitively. I'm not a pro or anything, but I'd say that the more you do it, the less you'll have to think about it. You need to understand the mechanics of the cube.

Ah ah, fruits. I'm French Canadian, and we use about the same word in French, which is "pomologue".

Welcome to the world!

I can't really tell you how to learn F2L because honestly I have no Idea about how did I learnt it, but I'm quite sure that if you see some example solves and try things for yourself you will be able to figure it out, it's not difficult at all.

If you want to be sub-1 don't worry, you will be in a few (2 or 3) weeks if you continue practising beginner's method + a little F2L. With the time wou will forget about the algs and you will see what actually happens in the cube, and that will help you a lot (But you have to see it for yourself, it's an intuitive process and I don't think it can be teached) BTW, in 8 months you can be sub 30 without much problem :P

I'm currently feeling happy I did not have to google pomologist :D

Welcome to cubing, and congratulations on the little one!

As far as F2L goes, I'm a proponent of teaching yourself by using logic, rather than memorizing algs, but for the record, you can easily sub 1 without f2l even if you are using a horrible cube.

I just started solving again, but now timing my self. I am using the same method, and am watching the same videos, and stuck on the same part. My best time is 1:12.80 so far.

Welcome and good luck!!

Hey!

Well, I personally recommend learning F2L intuitively. Learning 41 Algs is ridiculous. And if you aren't familiar with the cube, then you don't really learn much from knowing all of them. Knowing intuitive will increase your knowledge of the cube and make way for advanced solves. Because if you understand whats happening, you can learn how to manipulate the cube into doing more than one thing at a time. Except you don't need to worry about that now, thats just a long term effect of intuivite F2L.

If you are interested in learning a nice intuitive F2L, I recommend RiDo's Hunting Method. I learned it to learn my F2L, and it explains how to break down your F2L cases. then when you have this down, you can get some algs for the harder cases, or weirder ones, or ones that you know are taking too long.

But really practice above all, if you practice then you will be sub-1 in no time.

Also, I had to look up Pomologist. I learn something new everyday. :D

Good Luck in your endeavors!
