Im just curious what really fast 4x4 cubers use for edges. I was using a freestyle type of method, basically one at a time. But i want to switch to get faster. I average about 1.25-1.35. I was thinking either two at a time, or 6 at a time then two's. Or six-six or even six-four-two? So could you say what you average and your method. Thanks in advance :) Also could you say your breakdown solve if possible, cheers :)

I've always done two at a time. I'm not good at speed on the 4x4x4, i do it just for fun, but my solve generally goes:

Centers (two opposite (W/Y), two adjacent (R/B), two adjacent(G/O))
Edges, two at a time,
3x3x3
Parity (if necessary).

I'm around 1:10 avg, and here is my breakdown:
12 Centers
27 Edges
31 3x3
I use 6-2-2-2

On a good solve, I will have the redux done sub-35. Like today, I had two 55s in a row with 33s redux.

Livitcus: 31 is avg, with or without parities. Yes, it sucks, and I need to improve it. On my 59.xx solve in comp, I had like a 20 sec 3x3, which is what made it sub-60.

Yeah, I'm not saying 6-2-2-2 is the fastest by any means, I just prefer it. Chip is Tim Sun I'm guessing ;)

Phil uses 6-2-2-2 and avg's just over 1 min, Maytas used 6-2-2-2 and did a 59.xx avg in competition. Of course there is then Dan, Erik, and Tim who all use 2 pair (I think) and all have avg'ed well below 60 seconds.

Hmm ok thanks Pat. I will try just 2 at a time and 6-2-2-2, thanks again :)

Chip = ChipSkylark = Erik ;)

Ahaha yeah hes addicted to that fairly odd parents show, aha. Its also his msn name.

I switched from 2 at a time to 6 at a time about 2 months ago and it is just way way way faster and I seem to be able to find the piece so much easier using this method and coupled with the lesser move count it is awesome. I usually do 6 4 2 depending on the solve...sometimes I am forced into the 6 2 2 due to extra solved pairs.

I should of switched much earlier to this method because it has made a tremendous difference in solve times.

I've always done 6 at a time. Actually I used cage method on 4x4 and 5x5 for about a month until I actually tried out reduction. I do 6 at a time so I can always be looking for a chain of edges to pair up and substitute.

lol
i use something like yu nakajima's edges
i just do 1 at a time like in 5x5 but im nto good at it ....
still with taht i can avg 1:25 ish
with 2 at a time i guess like 1:20ish
so w/e
