I usually do:
(1-4) (13-15 + 12 (in "16" position)) (5 + 9) (last 6) (12 up)

I used to have a 15 puzzle with a bordered picture on it, so doing the outline first was easier.

I just do

1-4, 5-8, 9+13, 10+14, then cycle the other 3 around.

I did an avg. of 5, I suck because I've never touched one of these in my life. The times were 328.48, 99.24, 169.80, 228.48,323.08=229.82.

I average about 55 seconds now (sim).

I generally solve the fringe (1,2,3,4,5,9,13) first, then the fringe of the remaining 3x3, then finally 11,12,15.

7,3 (in 4,8's place)
4,8 (the 3 and 7 will be forced into their own place when solving 4 and 8)
9,13
10,14
11,12,15


right now I'm using:
1,2/3,4 (solving it in whatever order looks easiest)
5,6/7,8 (solving it in whatever order looks easiest)
9,13
10,14
11,12,15

I just recalled that I also used to do this when I played it on Facebook (Jungle Squares by Mindjolt Games)

for the 24 puzzles (on computer) I do:
