Can't maintain an average

I have been averaging between 22 and 24 seconds when I do an average of 10. But the problem is in that average my solves range from 16 seconds (rare) to 27 seconds. If I were to go into a competition where I only do 5 solves my average would be horrible. Some attempts at an average of 5 were around 26 seconds. I always start off with bad solves and then get faster. Is there any advice you guys can give me to lower the range of solves I get and hopefully lower my average in general. I've been averaging 23 for about 2 weeks now and no improvements. I use 2 look OLL and all the PLLs. Sorry for being so long hope you will help :D

You gradually get faster and more consistent; just keep practicing. Nothing more to say really. Unless you're stuck at twenty-something seconds for like 5 months, then I'd start asking questions.

Yeah I've been cubing like 6 hours a day since school let out, not all at once but throughout the day. I guess I just thought it wouldn't take that much time. I probably need to practice slow PLL cases too.

If you do go to a competition, be sure you warm up with lots of solves prior to your first round. That way you won't start off with bad solves in the competition round.

I always do as many solves as I can before my first round (40 or 50 at least, if I can help it), and I generally do a good bit better than my at-home average in competition. But then, I'm much worse at speedcubing than you, so what do I know? :) Maybe it doesn't work that way once you actually get good at it (which I still am not).

No Mike, I have the same effect and mind plan as you.
I get about a second better averages in comps than I do on AVERAGE at home.
If I could give 1 single tip to a new competitor it would be Have FUN and WARMUP! wait...thats 2.

Yeah I see what you mean. Though when I solve in front of friends and such at school or in public I do worse than I do when I am at home relaxed. I guess I just need to get some competition experience next year. :D

No!
GO to a competition ASAP!!!!
just plan for one and get scared and nervous!
Thats how your first comp is supposed to be xD
And if you do bad in your first comp, you know what you need to work on before your next xD
