Mine just arrived. I stripped it down and built it back up while lubing with Lubix.
The inner layers are amazing, however the outer layers are scratchy and slow.
I spent about an hour yesterday trying to lube every surface I could which would reduce the friction on the outer layers.
Nothing seemed to help. I have the cube set as loose as I sensibly can.

Any ideas? Or should I just keep breaking it in with my fingers crossed?

At the moment I'm relatively disappointed with it especially since after doing the same to the 6.6cm version it was instantly amazing.

edit - the tabs on the edges and corners are larger, presumably to reduce pops.

I would say break it in
My guess: since it's smaller the molding irregularities will have a bigger impact on the performance. That's why your trick on the big version did not work as good on the small one.

You also may want to examine each of the pieces for rough surfaces. If you find any, you might want to sand them down to make each one smoother (I've done this to several of my cubes, with good results).

I received mine this morning and did a few solves in my lunch break at work. I know what you mean about the outer layers.

Having a quick look inside I did see that the base of the contoured bases on the corners that move over the inner shells seem to be finely textured. I do not have its larger brother with me but iirc the larger cube is smooth here.

I will have to take a closer look when I get home but it may be sanding these bases with the finest of sandpaper may help with this. Don't take my word for it quite yet. I'll let you know what the effect is once I have done it.

Personally I hope I can get the turning right as I love evrything else about this new cube.

breaking it in. when i got my dayan 4x4, it feels terrible. just do 100 solves with the cube.

When I got my 6.6cm I stripped it down, removed excess plastic from the 2x2 core, lubed it with a Lubix style lube while rebuilding and it was instantly amazing.
I did exactly the same with the 6.0cm without these kind of results.
I've given up on the 6.0cm for now, but if it performs a lot better after breaking in I'll get a white one and put the work in.
I definitely can't be bothered to break this one in with 100s of solves when my recognition is poor (I use a slightly different colour scheme than the standard).
