Hi guys,

i just joined the forum and wanted to introduce myself.

My name is (as you might have seen) Thorsten and I'm a german student at Hanover University (Political Science).
I lived the first 20 years of my live in a very small town at the german/dutch border, so im fluent not only in german and english, but also capable of dutch and at the moment learning russian.
I just finished my bachelors degree and now starting a master here in Hanover.

My activities besides cubing are very very different. I often play Videogames (Xbox 360) but also like Geocaching and being outside. I used to play theatre from my 5th year of live till i finished school (in german it is "Abitur" i really do not know the englisch term for it, but its like finishing high school in the U.S.).

I'm very interested in probability (the math thing). And really like to read books about mathematic problems but also moral and ethic discussions.

I started Cubing in November 2010. A friend showed me how to solve the first 2 Layers and though he stopped cubing after a while, I'm still cubing and having fun.
Never been to a competition, because of a lack of time.
The method i use to solve the Cube is CFOP, an my best Avg. of 5 is 21,89 (done today) my PB is 19,15. But I usually average about 25-27 seconds at the moment.

As I told i started cubing nearly a year ago, but never managed to cube very much (I think averaging about 28 seconds is not very fast after one year).
I usually did like 10 or 20 solves a day and had weeks where i did not manage to solve a cube at all.
After i finished my bachelor thesis a month ago (the master is starting at the end of october) i found myself in a situation in wich i had nothing to do and decided to cube more and finish full OLL (i know all OLL algorithms but are not able to recognize the last 8). In this month I put my Average from 33 seconds to 28 seconds, which I think, is really nice.
My main cube is a Lubix Fusion (which i got a week ago, before that it was a "normal" Guhong).
I got serveral Dayan type cubes and have all from 2x2 up to 7x7, adding a Megaminx, and some other weird cubes.

For the people who only looking for numbers, here they are:

Cube, PB, Best Average of 5, Mean

2x2; 5,59s; 8,82s; ~10s (not practicing much)
3x3; 19,15s; 21,89s; ~28s
4x4; 2:22,74s; 2:37,40s
5x5; 3:40,24s; 4:25,52s
6x6; got mine like 5 days ago, never did an average, but probably really bad
7x7; 9:40,09s; 12:02,03s

As you see, I'm concentrating on 3x3, as the rest of my times are not really good.
I want to finish my OLL (as I said) and being comfortable with all of my algs before practicing the big cubes more.

So yeah, thats me, if you have any further questions about me, feel free to ask!

So far
Thorsten

Thanks for the welcome guys!

Today I was reading throgh the forums and it really looks like a fun place.

In most of the local forums, there are simply not enough people participating. (I guess)

Hoi!

I never posted an intro come to think... Just went straight to b*tchin' about my F-II. My intro wouldn't have been as interesting as yours anyway, so...
I'm from Uelzen by the way, near Hannover? You might of heard of it.

Yeah, the German forums are pretty desolate. I don't hang out there much. Got an infraction lately for posting a link to this site. Wanted to share one of my reviews, but one of the mods there took it as spam and "self-promotion". Poor souls...stay in your own little German speaking world why don't you. /rant.

I also speak fluent Dutch and also know some English. Have been living in Holland for the past 7-odd years.

Regards, have fun!

H.

Yeah I know Uelzen.

At least there is someone in Niedersachen, who is cubing, too.
To me it looks like there is nobody cubing here, also all competitions are far away from here. (I have to say: "all german competitions"!) I'm looking forward to join a dutch one.

@Enter Pesudonym
What does Habari mean?

First ever intro thread worth reading? :P

I really hope (and believe) that this is not the case ;-)

Welcome Thorsten. Fantastic intro, might I add.
P.S.( How would you respond to 1. d4? )

welcome aboard Thorsten! I'm also into the math thing (recently got my PhD in math :)) yay math!

I think I'm not smart enough for teaching people math, its just interest.
I'm more into the writing thing (thats why politics).

I'm sorry, what do you mean by '1. d4'?

How would you respond to 1. d4?

I know this question not directed at me, but I can't help but to reply :) I usually go 1. ... Nf6 (Indian Defense, which seems to lead alot to the Nimzo-Indian which, imho gives black a small advantage with a bishop-knight trade (losing a bit of control of the center for white) and doubled pawns for white)

edit: Sry for off-topic <slap face>
