Encouraging Schoolkids to Speedcube

Also, like someone stated before, I am very interested in math and got into cubing quick, maybe there is a connection. Also, one thing I liked about learning how to solve it was learning how it actually works. If I could go back in time I would rather learn how to solve the puzzle by first learning HOW the cube works and thinking logically rather than simply memorizing algs.

The connection between math and cubing?

The easiest answer to that would be "It's a right-brainer thing."

My friend did it, and tried to get me into it but i wasn't interested, i only wanted to solve it once, so one day he gave me a cube and i learned off of badmephisto's tutorial about 7 months ago, but i was so happy when it solved that i continued, then before i knew it cubing became an obsession now we both still solve and i am scraping sub 15 average, i people should try to get they're friends involved and get them to solve it once and if they aren't interested after that then move on to the next person, but if more and more people got involved into speed cubing it would be great

Well, related to the "right-brainer" part, I see myself as a logical thinker, hence my interest in math. Solving a rubik's cube, at first, you have to learn how it logically works. How certain parts change when you move certain areas and WHY the algorithms work. If you tell the kids to memorize a bunch of algs of course they'll get bored of it quickly, because it IS boring.

50% of my grade can solve a rubiks cubes. My school got really into to and most people have speedcubes. i started getting everyone in speedcubing and trying new puzzles. One of the reasons is our teachers encourage cubes and they have a box of them we can do when were done with our work. Also our teachers organized a schoolwide comp on the last few days of school and most people entered.

I can bet that your teacher has never heard my story :)
