[WR] 5.66 3x3x3 Single Feliks Zemdegs

By sponsors I mean people paying him money to attend competitions. I dont count the odd puzzle maker sending him cubes to try as sponsorship although its very nice of them to do so.
You should have said that you only talk about money (which could have been clear when thinking of how you mentioned all the lost money for your son in the sense of view counts and clicks at youtube before - I guess that is my fault?!).
But anyway, interesting sight... counting a not yet released cube that was free and for which some people would pay A LOT of money, and which is later on when being mass produced worth somewhat between 15 and 20 US$, not as a sponsored item. It's like a professional tennis player getting his shoes and dresses for free by e.g. Nike who says "I don't count that as sponsoring"... even worse, without this kind of equipment your son could not even have taken part in that specific part of the competition.
Also - if I got this right since english is not my native language (but the dictionary just confirmed that I got it right by giving me 28! similar translations) - calling the manufacturer an "odd puzzle maker" is not exactly how someone who gives you (sorry, your son) stuff for free should be entitled, don't you think so?
Anyway, congratulations again to your sons achievments, for which he surely practices a lot - he is possibly one of the biggest idol for most kids in this forum. But I think you really should reconsider your point of view since every help (free stuff) is worth its recognition. Because even though you consifer that as being very nice, I guess that is a little bit of an understatement. All the best from germany.

Thread Hijack (can it be called that if you go back on topic?)
I can remember that there was a WCA regulation that said all puzzles could be used, as long as they were generally available. Good thing that regulation no longer exists as it was unenforcable and confusing. I just checked and mentioned it so other people that might wonder if using this cube is allowed would know....it is

LOL Dictionaries only go so far...

Also: "stated before that etc etc etc ": there is this thing called "time" :-)
In " time" situations can change.
Sure, but he still said that even though his son used a cube that was free - only talking about that - no more, no less.
People just take a squiz at my aussie lingo and it gets all misread. e.g. odd indeed means occasional...
Thank you for the "translation" of aussie lingo to british/US english. But still, I stand to the other things I wrote.

So Eric do you think there should be an official enquiry? Maybe Faz should be stripped of all his titles and banned?

No?
Then calm down.
(also lots of cubers get free samples)

So the Cube was given to him by DaYan? Well, one could have thought so but wasn't it stated before by Fazdad that Feliks doesn't have any sponsors? Confusing contradictions...

Just to clarify:
Daqing Bao (aka designer of DaYan puzzles) has been generously sponsoring the past few competitions. Andy kindly contacted Daqing Bao a few months prior to this competition asking whether he'd be happy to donate a box of puzzles.

In the box he sent a few prototypes for Andy, Feliks and myself. The main bulk of the puzzles were:
  • 10 * Jewel Cube (Transparent) awarded to 1st/2nd/3rd for each event (one each only).
  • 30 * Lun Hui (Black) given to the first thirty competitors who registered ($2 rego).
  • 10 * Gu Hong (Color) given to organisers that donated their time without competing.

I'm trying to keep the registration fees down as much as possible by reducing printing costs. Sponsorship from designers, manufacturers, and retailers is very much welcome so that we can award some kind of prizes. Otherwise we'd be stuck handing out just stickers... although, I like stickers... <.<

There's a big difference between receiving prototypes and being contractually obligated to use them in your profession (ex was a tennis player). For example: being given some shoes that you may or may not wear vs. being paid to wear the free shoes per game.

7 out of 32 is "almost every" for you??
I think he meant the 4x4 records, 5x5 records etc

It is really great that you "offer up" your time for organizing a competition. It is even greater that you found SPONSORS who donated stuff. The difference here is, you actually call them sponsors while Fazdad didn't and only considers money givers as sponsors. That is what I said and just cleared again above.
[...]being contractually obligated to use them in your profession[...] For example: being given some shoes that you may or may not wear[...]
True, but if these "sponsored" things are used, shouldn't they be considered as being sponsored? Of course they should, which is the reason why you yourself just naturally called it sponsoring in your previous post.

I wish you all happy cubing and lucky solves.

Thanks :-)

I consider both "receiving a cube for free" and "being paid to use a cube for free" as forms of sponsorship. The latter would be much more beneficial for the competitor. I guess some don't consider the former as sponsorship when you might spend $1-2,000 on puzzles...

Well, I think whichever kind of sponsorship is given for competitions, they are great and need to be apreciated by everyone receiving them - which was the original reason why I posted in the first place.
No matter if it's only a dollar, free beverages/food or a comletely free venue. It all helps having competitions - which is what helps us because we have events where we can compete and at the same it helps the whole community by making our hobby more known and thus it helps the community grow. So, everyone - donate :-D

Where the hell would you get a white cube in 2003?

Hey hey, I have white cubes from the 1980s!

You should have said that you only talk about money

Woah, woah, taking things out of context much?? Let's see:

Do you have any reason to do this other than for financial reasons?

Feliks does not have any sponsorship so the only regular income he gets is from youtube hits. I believe he has earned this income. I do not apologise whatsoever in trying to remove any copies that take income from him.

I think it was rather clear that it was about money.
