wow I wasn't doing very well today... 30-34 avg and was thinking about consistance and looking ahead. well slow f2l helps like crazy! I got my times down to a 26 sec avg... ON A BAD DAY!!!!!! So gotta try thins tomorrow! anyway I was sort of spectecal about the whole going slow thing so I tryed it out got times INSTANTLY dropping. if anyone is spectical theis really works (but you actually have to look ahead to no just go slow :p) my time went from 31, 35, 29, 33 to 21, 26, 26, 24. wow good luck people.:D

Heh.. and you thought they were joking when all the fastest speedcubers tell you to slow down in order to get faster.

Nice pic though. Holy cow :)

Hi :-)

Going slow means simply to try to relax, not to be stressed. If i try to go slowly for real it will be REAL slow for sure :p Relaxing a bit may improve the lookahead and avoids lag/delay between steps. That is why you may overall may perform faster with a slower turn rate (slower peek rate, but better average rate obviously...)

I've been doing nothing but slow solves for the past two days. Actually I've been doing slow F2Ls focusing on looking ahead for my next pair. I do OLLs and PLLs normal speed because that's just one algorithm.

Going slow is in order to minimize delays, and find your best solution. There is no point in going fast to only stop for a second every 3 seconds, hence the reason why people say go slow and lookahead.

Yes, like stated, going slow is for the sake of minimizing recognition delays.
Once you're comfortable with a certain speed for going slow and looking ahead, try going a bit faster, while maintaining good look-ahead (A metronome helps with this). Eventually, you'll be at a pretty decent speed, with good lookahead.

My turning speed is already very slow (15.8 average for execution only) I can't slow down much to maintain my low 20's average. Slowing down a bit feels nicer, I always do that at competitions to make sure I don't pop. It's very difficult to find a nice balance of speed and recognition. I think I've got it these few days. I'm finally sub-25.
I always start really slow and speed up during F2L. I often forget to go full speed at PLL though.

Hi :-)

In addition to going slow to improve look-ahead it is also recommended (by Chris Hardwick and others ...) to start a solve slowly and gradually increase (turning) speed towards end of the solve. This makes sense as less and less recognition is really needed towards the end of a solve. Regardless of size actually. And virtually regardless of method also ;)

LOL Thats exactly what I'm doing, anyway thanks for the support guys.

Oh yeah, I feel like not helping much by going slower..... My time with F2L intuitive is like best 1 min...... but, the slowest is still sub-2 min. Is this good?

When you start intuitive F2L, your times will temporarily get worse. You just have to get used to it. And when people say going slower, they mean looking ahead and keeping each move consistent. I would recommend using a metronome. That helps A LOT.

ive been using a metrone for a while but i dont see any results when i go fast. any tips?

Thats because I metro is teaching you to slow down a bit and look ahead insted of executing each alg as fast as you can.

my times got from 60 to 80 avg and during a week of hard practise it was 60 again but with f2l, I never learned algs for f2l... 3 weeks or so after that I gone to 45 avg...
The greatest advise always comes up here in other threads, go slow and smooth, when you know intuitive f2l for 3 weeks you should be able to do like 90% of all cases blind without any afford, so you can look for the next pieces during solving one pair, even if you just follow one edge/corner of f2l, you will know exactly the position and orientation of that piece and got the 4 top layer edges/corners + 1-4 in the f2l spots where you have to look for them, you see some of those during following the piece anyway, so you got like 2-4 mostly to look for if you didn't find the piece before.
That's how I gone for it and it worked fine, you can say which pieces are possible to be the searched piece by ignoring all with last layer colour and with the 2 colours that aren't searched for, example, white cross, yellow last layer (boy sheme) you follow the red/blue/white corner, so you can say that all pieces with green, orange and yellow are not worth looking at.
Yeah it is obvious but sometimes you just have to think about those simple things...

This is from the thread "Help With Intituive F2L"
Let us say the f2l is done after 50 seconds, you get 10 seconds cross and got 10 seconds each pair.
There you got estimated 3-4 spotting the pair, 1-3 seconds planing and 2-5 seconds execution. so 6-12 each pair
With going slow and look ahead you save time at spotting the pair and some at planing. it becomes more natural to you to follow the pieces and know the orientation also, you can slowly go faster.
Maybe you should force yourself to go slow all the time first and after a couple of solves you can increase your speed at easy cases or when you feel you are able to do so.

Are you saying the is me??? Cos I'm pretty good at it now and can avg. about 12secs :p
