I just got 2 painted DS cubes and a cube4you cube...
They are both 4 billion times better than anything I have ever used. I just spent the day at a FIRST competition and used the DS cube (I didn't want to bring my C4Y cube, but I had 2 DSs) the whole day and I am crippling my old times.

I just want to say, that I recommend both (as in both types of cubes). Highly.
(I heard painted DSs were bad, but I really like mine. The paint has already started to deteriorate though, but I'll just sticker over it)

Are you, by any chance, from New Jersey? If not, then I guess you're from New Hampshire. A friend of mine went to the New Jersey competitions today and I heard his team won first place.

Also, when you say "they are both", do you mean the two DS's in particular or the DS's in general and the Cube4you brand cubes in general?

I'm planning on buying a C4y...

Which comp was this? And why were there 'teams'?

Robotics. It has absolutely nothing to do with cubing. (I'm not a member of a FIRST competition team though, so I'm not an expert on these competitions). See http://www.usfirst.org/default.aspx

I'm terribly sorry for the misunderstanding. :o:o

Yes, painted DS cubes turn really fast. They spin really easily too. Also it doesn't pop. The only that that's bad about it is that it stinks at corner cutting. It can't cut corners better than like 20 degrees while most other cubes can cut corners over 25.

By the way do you have the DS cube where the inside of the cubies are normal shaped or weird shaped? The normal shaped ones are better.

Story: Nine years ago my high school started a FRC team, and six years ago we merged with two other schools near us. This year we broke off from the team, and only did FTC. So, alas, it was an FTC competition not a FRC one. (If you don't know the difference FRC is the big robot, FTC is the little one). However, had we not been separated from the FRC team, we would have gone to the New Hampshire one (the other two schools were there).

Surprisingly I did not see any other cubers... I was hoping I would meet some at the FTC competition. Hopefully some will be at next weeks.

Fixed. I meant both types in general. I did not lube my DS cube yet, and I got a few sub-30s yesterday (very good for me). I ordered the assembly+lube service from C4Y, and yes, it is amazing (like I already said).
And the DS cube is only 2.99, if you are ordering something anyway, you might as well get one too.

Cuts corners better than my Type D and Storebought (not C4Y though).
The cubies look like this:

This is a little off topic but if you like the stickered version of the DS cube. They kick @$$, i have two of each and the painted onces dont cut corners well but the stickered ones do and they turn just as well.
