Two threads had the term "zeroing" in it, which is apparently his secret technique. It might just be a highly organized prank but hey, it doesn't mean he isn't using an unknown extension method.
Although it was probably just a joke, someone said Faz = F2L after zeroing.
That got me thinking. After taking a look at a couple of Faz's solve breakdowns, I saw that he pretty much uses {R, L, U, r, l, u, d} and next to no cube rotations other than in G perms. Yeah he might just have great algs for all four viewpoints of all F2L cases, but what if he uses a sort of EO for non-LL edges before F2L? Or some other setup that ergonomically reduces the cube or parts of the cube in a different way than EO?

What do you guys think is Faz's secret? I have a feeling that if it exists, its something clever, not brute force.

On a somewhat more serious note, I wonder if Feliks has a much faster than average reaction time? Feliks, have you ever done any of those reaction time flash games? How fast can you react?

Chris

That's cool! I averaged 184 milliseconds, my best time being 155 milliseconds. Apparently that is above average. FAZ's is probably like 110 milliseconds.

EDIT: I average on 3x3 ~16-17 sec.

Looking at reconstructions of his solves, I don't think he uses too many advanced methods or tricks. I think it just comes down to a lot of practice, excellent vision and naturally good reaction times. His F2L is extremely efficient.

I sometimes wonder if everyone practiced cubing a lot, how many people would have the potential to be as good as Faz. 1 in 100? 1 in 1,000? 1 in 1,000,000?
As cubing is not exactly a major pastime, I am sure there would be people with as much natural ability as Faz.

Yet again, it seems come down to the most important thing you can do to become fast....the P word.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the answer just comes down to the P word like you think

I was mainly referring to the ongoing guessing game, and the chocolate posts.
Guessing game? Why I merely suggested that someone try to find what BS stands for. No "guessing game" intended.
