Heya what's up cubers?

So I have been browsing the forum for a cube to buy since I have only used crappy ones and only managed 39sec so far. So I am about to buy a new one and I have almost made up my mind about whish but I still have a few questions about them.

I was thinking about a DIY TYPE A (No number) and a F-II.

But the think is, when I look at all the sites, they always have diffrent names for them, so my question is.

Is the DIY TYPE A same on all those sites (9spuzzles, cube4you and lightake)
because it seems to me all of them have a slightly change in their names.

Are they all the same?

Thanks alot for reading! // Doug

They are the same, as far as I can tell.
They all look to be the Alpha-I. It's a good speedcube for beginners, I've found.

I'd deeply consider not getting the best cubes out there yet, as one needs to be accustomed to other cubes before it.

I have an F-II, and I see flaws with it. I prefer it over my A-II, but it's still imperfect. My A-I is slow for my liking, but when I was just under sub-30, it felt godly.

As your times get faster, invest in an F-II (or something similar, as not to cause argument).

Buy what you'd like to.
At this point there is really no benefit to getting one cube over the other.
Yes, I said it.
Frankly, you're too slow for it to really matter.

Maybe you can teach me some? You time is so impressive!

I hope your sarcasm sense is tingeling.

I know, isn't it?

Seriously though, I know that I'm not qualified to tell which cubes are better than others. So I'm not going to talk about which one is better. Talk to someone fast if you're really interested in it. But, like I said, which DIY you use isn't going to matter for quite some time.

You're telling me that switching from a normal rubiks to a DIY isn't going to improve my time?

My guess is that it will tho, Im talking about like 2-3 seconds maybe and it will confort me for future solving since its probalt the cube I will be using in the future.

Did I ever say that? No.

+1.
It really doesn't matter, it'll be better than storebought, and the DIY will grow with you.

For the record- I think getting a DIY is a good idea. Yes, storeboughts can be great, but generally people are going to have much better luck with a DIY.

Ahh yeah I can see that now, sorry about that. Alltho choosing the right one will probaly benefit in the future if I get the right one for me. It's a matter of luck I guess lol.

Try modding your storebought :D Mine came out great, it just needs an anti-pop mech.

As said, the DIY chosen will grow with you. There aren't any strict guidelines, though. It's not like once you're sub-30 you have to get a DIY and once you're sub-20, you have to switch to A5, GuHong, F-II, and the like. It really is all personal preference. If you like a cube to be smooth, then don't go with the newer Alpha cubes, as I find them to be quite crispy, and loud. Ghosthand's are great for beginners, they're preassembled, smooth, and very quite (hence the name :p).

What I recommend is actually getting a Type C. I find these to be great cubes. Mine has Maru hardware in it, which you can get from LighTake. While you're at it, maybe get some maru lube. It is liquid gold. I've heard great reviews about Lubix, and I've ordered a tube, but I still can't give you my opinions, as I haven't received it.

Actually, speaking of shops, I really recommend LighTake. The shipping isn't as slow as you may think, and it has a very wide variety. Other than that, there's http://www.cubingstore.com/ (Cube depot) and also has a wide variety of things, though it is no match for LighTake :D http://www.speedcubeshop.com/ (Camcuber's Shop) is also pretty good. I'm against C4Y, even though I haven't ordered from them before. It sounds like they don't have very good customer service..

For the record, I believe it would matter which DIY he got, in the long run. Maybe, the times would be the same, but if it was a cube he liked, he would improve much more than one he didn't. Though it is possible that he may become accustomed to the non-favoured cube, I think it's still better to get the one you like first, instead of getting one he didn't like, and growing to the cube.

Hope the info has been helpful

Edit: wow, maybe my longest post :)

Thanks alot for the info there dillonbladez.

Darn there was lube on Lightake? Ive already ordered my stuff ;(

Anyway I hope my cube isnt going to be giving alot of noice. I saw that Badmephisto uses a TYPE A and it seems so smooth.

Ofc that is becuase he is a good cuber =)

Anyway thanks for answering the thread guys. I ordered a TYPE A and a TYPE A5 to get the free shipping. Didnt really find F-II tho... If some1 finds it, then please link =)

Take care // Ebbz

PS. Gz on 1k posts dillonbladez

...I did not even notice.... osht I hope it wasn't a useless post D:<

Edit: Actually, I believe that shipping from LighTake is free, so I think it wouldn't hurt to buy a bottle or two of Maru Lube. It's just that if the order is not $15+, then you don't get free tracking, although you can buy it for two dollars, I think.

I recommend
A5
F-II
GhostHand I (or II)
Type C w/Maru hardware (its pretty good, but you may not like it.)
Dayan GuHong, if you can afford it.

But for priority, A5 and F-II, then GhostHand (since pre-assembled), GuHong, and then lastly Type C.. haha

Yeah I ordered a A and A5. Including 2 cases for iPhone 4 when I get mine in future.

Btw small question. How do you guys track and get back to a thread that you have written in? This one for example.

Do you favorite it or do into your profil and from there look or what?

This is the part why I dont normally use forum except for fragbite.com (swedish all-in-all forumm with amazing forum system).

I generally view my profile and choose one of the following options-
"Find all posts by hawkmp4
Find all threads started by hawkmp4"
If you haven't noticed it yet, if there's a solved cube by the thread or post title, there's no new posts, unsolved -> new posts. That provides a quick way to tell if there's anything new from the search page.
