Why does everyone hate Pogobat's beginner method tutorial?

So after cubing for a year and a half on and off, one question has never been answered for me. I know plenty about cubing; I'm not very fast, but I know things. I'm not a noob by any means. But I still don't know: Why does everyone hate Pogobat's beginner's method tutorial? Yes, it's not fast or anything. But it's not supposed to be. It's a BEGINNER'S method. If it's because it can be confusing, fine. But honestly, I don't see a problem with it, and there seems to be another one people have. What is it?

I just don't like how he knows a lot about cubing. Otherwise, his videos are fine, and they're very energetic. I like how at the end of every part, he sort of gives you the thumbs up to everything.

Bad memory?

What's with all the hate for Pogobat's beginner method video? He's not a pro by any means, but the tutorial is fine for beginners.

I you take a look at the comment, you'll see that the tutorials are hard to follow, they give people "headaches". Also, he uses vaseline, which is the worst lube choice. Lastly, in his method, he does PLL first then OLL, which makes the transition into Fridrich harder, as Fridrich does OLL then PLL. Badmephisto's beginner method is similar to the Fridrich method, thus make transition easier, as his beginner method does OLL then PLL.

He doesn't know a lot about cubing, but he teaches the Beginner's Method fine. He's clearly done it plenty of times. He doesn't have to be an expert to teach a beginner's method.

He used to have an annotation correcting the vaseline thing...no idea where it went.

Also, he redid his tutorial with the correct notation. He did a new one.

It doesn't do PLL then OLL. It kind of does 2-look ELL, then 2-look CLL. Sort of.

I still think Badmephisto's tutorial is better, don't get me wrong. But all of Badmephisto's videos are better than all the other tutorials. Dan Brown's isn't that bad.

Bad memory?
Actually, yes. Sorry D:

1. He doesn't/didn't use proper notation or terminology.

2. His approach to solving the last layer does not provide a smooth transition to the Fridrich method.

3. His tutorial does not really promote an understanding of how you are solving the cube.

It's not a bad tutorial if you're simply looking to solve it, but people (like myself) who learn it and then want to get faster often have to relearn things. Tutorials like badmephisto's are made to allow a smooth transition if one decides to practice and learn more advanced techniques/algorithms.

So my conclusion is that people don't like the Fridrich transition. Yeah...I agree.

Also, again, the notation issue is fixed. He redid it because he realized his notation was stupid...I have no idea where he got his original notation.

Also, Fridrich doesn't really give a good understanding of how you're solving the cube either xD

1.iirc, It's the same notation as in the booklet

2. It's not supposed to. It's the solution from the booklet.

3. Neither do most beginner methods.

I don't hate his tutorial myself. I'm giving the reasons why most people do. I would never recommend it to anyone myself, but he's the reason I even bothered trying to solve a cube so of course I'm grateful for that.

1. So?

2. Like I said, the tutorial is fine if you're just looking to solve your cube.

3. Well some do, and I think they are very beneficial.

There're much better 'beginner' methods out there that are just as simple to teach/learn, and much easier to get faster with or improve on.

During some of our Vancouver meets or just around in public, we'd sometimes hear people say to solve it you just memorize 4 moves and keep repeating it to get something where you want it. One person I talked to admitted to skimming through pogobat's video and heard him say to repeat 4 moves until a corner's in the right spot in the first layer.

Dunno, from my experience it gives people the wrong impression of cubing, as I've even overheard multiple people say it's -impossible- to solve without memorizing algorithms, and that basically none of it is intuitive. On top of that some people who use his method see little improvement and give up trying to get faster simply because they feel it's impossible for them to.

the notation probablly came from a really stupid method, that when you bought the cube (5ish years ago) came with a booklet that taught you a really bad method, and fktarded notation.

I think the problem with the way he teaches it is he doesn't tell you anyway that you can get a lot faster. I had no idea what to do to get faster for the longest time.

However his tutorial is fine for people who just want to solve the cube.

His "how to get faster" part was a disaster.

Eh, sort of. The inverse algorithms for beginner's method were a good idea. Then it just went to crap.
Err, no. He showed a mirror of R'D'RD (LDL'D'), instead of the inverse (D'R'DR). He showed how you should use rotate the cube and LDL'D' for a first layer corner case and for the last step if you get the sune case. The worst part imo was when he showed his fingertricks when doing the second layer and said that it was pretty fast.

His tutorials are the first I used. And that's how I got my first speedcube by the jelly. lol. There are better tutorials out there from people who KNOW what they are talking about. But I definitely DON'T hate his tutorials
