How long did you master your speedcubing method?

To be quite honest I don't think anybody has 'mastered' any method.

Unless you just mean learn all of the algorithms for that method. In that case I've mastered two beginners method and almost all of Fridrich lol..

I learned all the algs in Friedrich in like 6 month. I was slow at learning algs.
I haven't mastered the method yet...

As a n00b, I would assume the term 'mastered' to mean sub-20 avg.

I know that I am NO WHERE NEAR that time... and I have often had the same question.

From the time that you started cubing... how long did it take for you to get to 'the major mile-stones'?:
  1. Sub 1 min
  2. Sub 45 sec
  3. Sub 30 sec
  4. Sub 20 sec.

I know that it 'shouldn't' take that long to get to 30-45 seconds... if you are practicing correctly... but how long does it take to get 'really fast'?

1. 2 weeks
2. 1 month
3. 2 months
4. 3 months

Mastered would be in my opinion that you can do it fast, that you know what the method is about, understanding in the methods development, understanding in choices made in the development, trying to improve on the little details and ability to execute smooth and fast (sub-13)
so I guess it took me 2 years for 3x3 CFOP though I wouldn't call myself fully mastered...

Very well said, Erik.

As for me, I've been using Petrus for like 8 or 9 months now, and I've gotten a sub 19 average. I have nowhere near mastered this method.

Actually, I don't think anyone has mastered Petrus. Johannes knows a bunch of insane tricks, but I don't think you could even say he has mastered the method.

I mastered the beginner's method in a few weeks if that counts lol. Although I can only get an average of 30 sec with that method because it takes like so many steps and uses ways that are weird to a Fridrich user to solve different things.

For Fridrich, I am afraid that I stil need to learn the rest of the OLL cases that I did not learn and even then I still need to average sub-20(I average only sub 25 now). I learned what I needed to know to speesolve though within three months to obtain that sub-25 average. But I have not mastered anything except for that beginner's method(assuming averaging 30 seconds with that sucky method is the limit).
