i have finally broke a 20 second average. took me long enough. very long actually. just about 5 months. i have a problem. everytime i start an average, my times are terrible. but after a while of solving quite a few cubes, my times are better. i just think i need to warm up. does anyone know of a good way to warm up for an average besides just solving the cube? it would be very helpful.

well the way i warmed up for this 3x3 average was by taking a 4x4 average. i didn't really plan on doing a 3x3 after, but i felt like i had to, since i was warmed up and ready to go.

random : how long did it take you guys to break a 20 second average?

How long it takes you is relative to how long you can spend practice and learning etc.

For those with full time jobs and families and other commitments the time spent cubing is considerably less than say a school kid.

Cognratz!

Within 4 months, but haven't gotten much faster after, lol. Too many OLLs to learn.

grats! yea that's pretty quick. took me a little above 6 months to get to sub20 averages...

and yes i have to warm up as well, at least 3 or 4 solves, otherwise i perform crappy :)

thrawst: maybe you just don't practice enough? :) I know I cube about average 20 minutes or more every day... Sometimes much more. I watch my TV shows while I cube, so if I watch a couple of them in a row, it can add up to even 3 hours or more of cubing

Good job on your sub20 avg.

I've been cubing for close to a year now, and I'm sub22. I'm really looking forward to be a sub20 cubist.

But it might take a while...my wife hides the cubes when I practise too much :)

yeah it seems like i'm making tiny improvements everytime i take an average, and sometimes it'll get higher. i don't think i will ever reach sub 15 =(. seems too hard. but i'll try

It took me like a year to get sub-20, so I congrats you. Surprisingly, my first sub-20 average was also my first sub-19 average lol.

that's really fast alex =P. okay i'm getting mad now. it seems like my average is never "steady". i just averaged around 21-22. i've been stuck here for forever. i guess that sub-20 was lucky? i know it's my f2l. it's terrible. i really need to improve. i can't find any way to improve f2l though. it's everywhere on the forum, but nothing seems very.. good?

Thats really fast compared to me, my average is about 28.27.
But the other day i did my new record of 19.16! So im real happy

wow that's fast..I've been cubing since October 2007 (but I learned fridirich in November) and now the 20second barrier is bothering me.. :( my pb is 20.15(no skips), best avg of 5 is 25..does anyone know where i can find fast and good algs for the f2ls? (especially odd cases and where the edge and corner are side by side) my cross and f2l are slowing me down a lot :(

Congrats, now you can aim for sub-20 average average.

Does that mean to do 144 solves, and take the trimmed average of twelve trimmed averages? :)

Lol I did that took so long o_o

Grats on the sub 20 average. Wish I could get below that soon. I haven't been cubing (like normal) for the past two weeks or so. Haven't done and average on 12 in forever.. My averages are like 27s and 28s now without practice. I've been cubing for about 5 months now. =/
