PiKeeper's Progression Thread - New Video on SPV's WR average, finally sub-10 2H

I got covid and wasn't motivated to do OH, so I've been trying to improve my L10P. I got a 6.66 CN L10P Ao50 yesterday, and today I learned DFDB recognition, one dots skip case, and 3/1 and 4/0 EOLR. My goal is to learn full EOLR and a couple easy LSE tricks to get sub-6 color neutral so I can then focus on blocks until I'm sub-12.

I haven't seriously improved at 3x3 in a while, so I'm going to try to change that with some dedicated practice that I can work at when I don't have school or soccer. I want to get sub-12 with color neutral roux, so my goal is to specifically work on each step of the solve until it can be optimized to sub-12 level. Here's my plan:
LSE: Learn full EOLR, keep practicing DFDB recognition, learn to predict non M2 inserts, average 3.5 seconds
CMLL: Learn better recognition, average 2 seconds
FB: Use FB trainer to get decent FB efficiency, plan FB in inspection, average 2 seconds
SB: Lots of lookahead and tracking pieces, average 3.5 seconds

I took a long break from cubing to focus on school, but I came back a few months ago and I've been practicing a lot over the summer. I've got two comps coming up in the next few months, so I figured I'd give an update on my averages:
2x2: 3 seconds with CLL, starting to learn EG-1
3x3: High 12 with Roux
4x4: Mid-47
5x5: Somewhere around 2:15 but I don't practice
OH: Mid 17 with Roux
Squan: Maybe sub-29?

I'll be primarily focusing on learning EG-1 and practicing pyra, squan, and clock for my next comp.

I finished learning all the EG-1 algs yesterday after a lot of procrastination, so I'm starting a new challenge for myself to hopefully get EG-1 fast enough to use in my next comp in two weeks. My goal is to do 1400 EG-1 solves over the next two weeks and hopefully get somewhere close to sub-3 by the end.

After my first day of drilling, I've done 293 EG-1 solves (and I've updated my goal to be 2000 solves in 2 weeks). Here are my stats:
Single: 1.42
Mo3: 2.58
Ao5: 2.58
Ao12: 3.15
Ao100: 3.99

Good Luck! I assume you know CLL, since you should learn CLL before EG-1, so if you know both sets I'd recommend starting to one-look. It is very important and will improve your times by over a second. J Perm's tutorial is the best one. You can also use Anti-CLL (Which is easy) instead of EG-2.

Right now I'm only one-looking 2 and 3 move faces, but once I'm averaging close to my CLL times I'll start trying to one look everything.

Those are some really good times. I average 4-5 for 2x2 with Ortega and I can’t really find myself learning cll because I don’t really practice 2x2 but keep up the good work😊

I was able to grind solves for a couple hours and now have 849 solves completed. I'm now averaging about 3.6-3.7 but it's very inconsistent with me getting lots of 2 second solves balanced out with slow recognition 4 second solves. The highlight was getting two easy one look solves back to back, so I used CLL for the next few solves to get an overall pb mo3 of 1.81 and ao5 of 2.12.

Here are the one second solves I got for anyone interested
1.50 U' R2 U R U2 F2 R F2 R @2023-09-16 22:05:11
1.70 F2 U' R' F2 U2 R' U R' U' @2023-09-16 22:05:37

1539/2000 solves. I'm easily going to make my goal, but ensuring I'm sub-3 with EG by then is going to be a bigger issue. My main issues right now are slow recognition (particularly for S/AS where I often double recognize and do a U4), locky execution, and not knowing auf for a few cases. To fix this, I'll be taking a break from solves and using speedcubedb to drill cases until my recognition, execution, and aufing are all up to par.

I've also been practicing squan and clock on the side, and I've got down to sub-23 on squan and sub-13 on clock.

1765/2000 2x2 solves. Averaging mid 3.3 but there's an uncomfortable amount of +2s and DNFs. I'll still probably use full EG for my competition this Saturday, but I'd really like it if I could drop my EG-1 times even more before then and stop getting so many penalties.

Also, I got a pretty nice OH PB single.
Scramble: R2 D B' R' U2 R D2 B2 F2 R F2 D' B' F D2 U F' R2
y2 z
U S' U' R U B2 // FB
U' r U R U R M U' r U' r' // SB
U' F R U R' U' R U R' U' F' // CMLL
U' M' U2 M U M2 U' U2 M2 U2 // LSE
38 turns/10.91 seconds = 3.48 tps

I predicted the eo going into lse, but I missed the cancellation into l4e. Overall a pretty nice solve.

I finished my 2000 2x2 solves in 2 weeks, so here's an update on my eg-1 pbs and results:

Single: 1.31
Mo3: 2.11
Ao5: 2.17
Ao12: 2.75
Ao50: 3.01
Ao100: 3.18
Ao1000: 3.39
Ao2000: 3.64

All in all, I'd say it was pretty successful. Some points of clarification are that I didn't count +2s during these solves, and I only used eg-1 algs, no cll. I'm going to do comp sims for the next couple days using full eg to prepare for my comp on Saturday where I can hopefully get a low 3 or high 2 average. There's still a ways to go for me to get my eg-1 algs on par with my cll algs, but the 2000 solves were definitely enough to get me familiar enough to use it in comp.
