stuck at 4 mins!!! (4x4)

Hi, i hope you can help me out.

i've been trying to down the time in my new 4x4, i already know how to do 2 pairs at the same time so the pairing time decreaced, but i'm still doing it in 4 mins or more!!!!

when i get all the pairs i use intuitive f2l, 2 look OLL and full PLL to solve like a 3x3.

what should i learn to get faster???? or is just matter of practice and practice till i can get at least 2 mins:confused:

thanks in advance

Just practice and you should have said 4x4 in the title.

Hi

first, what cube you use? I used to have my timing issue because I used an Eastsheen cube, i changed it to Meffert's and I got much better

second, it all depends on looking ahead, just go a little slow and find more edges

third, check your 3x3 times, because it affects the 4x4 times in your method

forth, I was stuck at 2 minutes, then I changed my edge pairing method to Robert's 4x4 edge pairing method, and now I average 1:30, its still the same "2 at a time" method

fifth, just keep on practice

I hope these notes were helpful : )

I use an edge pairing method where it does 4-6 pairs at a time depending on the situation. Watch dan cohens 4x4 method explanation video, and only use the edge pairing method, i dont like the center method, too difficult for my little head.

What is the time for centre/edge/3x3?

And if you are stuck at 4 minutes on 4x4, you are obviously not practicing enough. I don't think blaming it on the cube is right, practice is the answer to every question that asks why I'm not getting faster, especially since you are already using 2 pair.

Ok, thanks for all the answers, i use a YJ 4x4 (v-cube mechanism), and thanks for the info about the 6 pairs at the same time i saw it and ill keep practicing till i get this time down

What is the time for centre/edge/3x3?

i just did a solve and the times were like this:

centre: 34
pairs: 2.55
3x3: 56

for a total of 4.25

Ya, you should probably practise edge pairing a lot more. Try to look ahead as much as possible.

My breakdown is something like this, when I don't practise much. (Don't actually own a 4x4x4 anymore)

Centers: 25
Edges: 55
3x3x3: 30

Thanks again, by the way, hope you all don't get mad with me for not saying this since the start, but is just the 3rd day since i first ever touch a 4x4 LOL

Just for comparison, my breakdown

centre: 15
edge: 30
3x3:25

I average about 1:10
See that the edge pairing should not take more than than 3 times of your centre time, you should work on it more. (esp. since you are doing 2 pair)

This story is weird but true: So back in about August, I had a crappy 4x4 (Rubik's), and was averaging 4:30. Got a tiled QJ, times went down by a bunch. So I said, hey, I'm tired of averaging 2:30-2:45, let's learn 2 edges at a time! Bad idea. Stuck there for a long time. Then I said, screw this, 1 edge at a time, especially after seeing Erik get sub 1 with one at a time edge pairing with OLL parity. Then I got a mini QJ, and just focused on lookahead and turning faster, and I average about 2:10 to 2:15, and would be a heck of a lot faster if it wasn't for these darn tests and AP classes. I haven't cubed seriously since Spring Break, and before then not for 2 months.
Breakdown: 30 seconds centers, 50-55 second edges, 40+ second 3x3 stage. I always let myself down on 3x3, I don't know why.

Moral of the story: Turn fast and lookahead. Turning fast is much more imperative than on 3x3, by virtue of having so many more moves to make.
