Tools:
Wire Cutters
Screwdriver
Knife

Step 1- Unscrew your whole cube.
Step 2-Cut of one loop from the non fat side of the spring.Do that to two, four, or six sides
Step 3-Do this mod -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OojTR2MkZIE
Step 4- Adjust the cube to your likings. (I made the cube a bit looser than normal)
Step 5 - Lube and enjoy :)

This mod made my cube faster and get rid of the marshmallow feel of the cube and did nothing to the lockup rate.

EDIT: Do this if you hate your cubeforyou cube or just have cubeforyou cubes lying around.

i just threw mine away and kept the center peices for storebought diys i guess

I tested out the Type A-V mod on mine, and it makes the cube turn much smoother but however, I feel like it is more prone to jamming rather than popping. Well, I still got to do the spring mod and see what happens but I can't get a hold of wire cutters at the moment.

Once lubed,
Won't cut corners = too tight
pops = too loose

the trick is to find the optimal tension for your particular type. I'd imagine that certain types will never get a good combination of both. C4y isn't one of them.

I did the AV mod on my c4y and it went from good to great. My Haiyan memory is still faster so I'm going to try trimming the springs to see if that helps. If it speeds it up it will be the ultimate cube for me. (the Haiyan Memory is a bit too light and hollow feeling.)

You'd tighten slightly ( and lose a little cutting ability)
A store bought has rivets instead of screws. You need screws to adjust the
tension.

But I modded it... with screws... and they don't go in anymore...

It sounds like you need to use shorter screws to me.

If the center pieces are touching the core and there is no give you could sand the core down on each side. Then the screws can go in farther.

Its hard to tell without looking at it.

I might upload pictures later today.

WARNING: This may make your cube have a higher popping rate i'm guessing once every ten solves.

That's unbelievably high. Why would anyone want to use a cube that popped that much?

[/sarcasm]

I was being serious. That sounds like a horrible cube.

Agreed. You should never expect your cube to pop every so often. In my opinion it should almost never happen or its not right for your style.
