An idea for a "similar threads" thing

Although it may prevent some new threads, it also caused noobs to bump topics that were 2-3 years old. I really don't mind people bumping old threads, as long as they are aware of the date the topic was created, and have something of value to add. I am yet to resolve the issue of the cutoff date for similar threads, but I will move it up the to-do list a bit. Additionally, there are some formatting errors I need to resolve in the similar threads display.

to prevent people from bumping old threads, you could add a "time-scale" icon bedside the thread title. (such as red for threads more than 1 year old, yellow for several months old, etc) I think the smilie icon of the threads are a bit pointless, so why not replace them with icon showing how old the thread is?

How about a thread, in which people can suggest thread ideas, and people can tell them if they've been done before, or if the thread belongs inside a different thread.

Spoon feeding isn't the way to go. People can search by themselves. If people are too stupid to even attempt to search, then they don't belong here. I'm more than willing to answer questions and support new-comers who aren't used to using this forum, but having a thread where we spoon feed them is overkill to say the least.

Oh, well sorry, I made it before you posted this. But this kind of thing is the purpose of the thread. Many times I've had ideas for threads, but have been to scared to make a thread because I figured staying quiet is better then taking the flaming you get from making a fail thread.

i like daniels idea. the smiley faces are pretty pointless...
