F2L With Minimum Cube Rotations

Hi everyone,

I currently average around 42 seconds with Fridrich (all OLL/PLL). I want to break 30's but I'm at a road block. I'm currently practicing my look ahead on the F2L since I know that is part of my problem. But the other part of my problem is getting over the idea of minimum cube rotations and using only the L/U/R faces only. I find it hard to place corner-edge pieces into place sometimes without a cube rotation. But when I watch these videos of some speedcubers, they do it effortlessly with at times, no cube rotations. I know it probably comes with practice but is there something obvious that I'm missing? Should I also be focusing on efficient triggers?

Thanks in advance.

ZZ is a speedcubing method which uses no cube rotations during F2L and also uses only the L U and R faces that you talked about.

Yes, but he asked about CFOP.

Rotations aren't bad. You make less the more you practice. It will come naturally. So you know all the OLLs and PLLs? You should at least be at 30s, even if your F2l is bad. Just practice.

Also, make sure you have a really good cube too. It can help. Learn some fingertricks too.

Excellent question, I am in the same boat. Some of them I simply set them up and practiced which helped.

Now, I am off to look into the ZZ method. I am interested to see how this thread develops.

First off, after the first quotation mark in your signature there is a space. Secondly, there is no punctuation in that sentence. Just thought you should know.

Thanks everyone for replying. I'm actually at work trying to get a few things done and after about an hour, I saw that I had 8 posts!!! You guys are fast, haha.

I do know all OLL/PLL but the problem (aside from look ahead) is that I am using the wrong cube, so I am stuck in the 40's. I had bought a type-A from C4Y but it sucked, popped a lot. The only other thing that I had was a store bought so I swapped out the cubies with A cubies and it turns nicely but wouldn't cut if my life depended on it in a knife fight. I just recently orderd a type-C and a C4Y core (as some have recommended) so we'll see if my times decrease on that alone.

I'll check out crider's website, maybe it'll give me some ideas. but I really don't want to learn another method until I can get decent with Fridrich's method. I'll keep practicing in the mean time.

did you set the tensions so its awesome? pestvic has a vid on it

i think it's C-II cubies. correct me if i'm wrong.

edit:
once i had like 10-20 posts within an hour. uber fast :D

yeah im sorta the same, 35sec PB and 45 sec avg, but my f2l is intuitive (around 20-30secs) and my OLL is a hybrid/intuitive, i know 13 PLL's after that, looking to learn 2 look OLL then practice my f2l, just keep practicing ill pick up the shortcuts i think, want to be 25sec average and ill be happy..

i think, want to be 25sec average and ill be happy..

no you wont....
thats ~what i average. Im mad cause I 'know' i should be sub-20...

besides the definition of a speedcuber is a nerd, who is never happy no matter how fast he/she is.

True true lol, but ill not be as miserable as i am at the moment :p

And to answer dillonbladez, yeah i do use commutators, mainly cus i cba learning full OLL with fridrich, hence the 2 look one to start me off

You just wanted to make CFOP look bad. :-p

I don't find anything wrong with cube rotations, as long as you do them while your turning.

Lol, I wasn't saying anything bad about it, it was just annoying the heck out of me. I don't have anything against Fridrich... well not much anyway...

But yea, cube rotations can be done fast, as well using u or d moves.

umm I'm averaging around 16 and I have quite a few cube rotations during solve. Eric Limeback goes to my school and we cube together a lot. From what I see, he has maximum 2 cube rotations per solve, which is crazy. but I can't tell what he's doing that I'm not doing, partially cuz I do green cross  stupid Dan Brown tutorial

Using full Fridrich you should be able to be sub 20 just by practising. Maybe you need to solve the cube slowly but continuously. I would recommend you to use a metronome. According to my personal experience, the obstacle for the 40s wall is looking ahead. You should learn how to look ahead.
I used to stuck there to, but after practising using the metronome on my look ahead, I can be sub 30 now.
