Idea on how to keep "noobs" away from the forum

Another forum that I used to frequent had an anti-bump system. This made double posting impossible. Basically, once you post, you cant post again until someone else has posted in the thread.

The term "noob" makes me mad. I think its overused. (Just my thoughts. Off topic)

I like the idea of making you wait to post. Sure would've helped me in the beginning.
I say we just ban everyone who has joined Oct 2009 or later. They are all pretty much noobs anyway.
Do you know how wrong that is? Or did I not catch the sarcasm?

Just saying: when you accept being a moderator shouldn't you be expecting to do work? Just saying that because of what Stefan said about the report button and moderators.

I'm all for the rating system that Mr. Pochmann mentioned. I will make it my personal aim to have the lowest rating of anyone on speedsolving.

The report button is there for a reason. There is no need for a rating system.
Very different things. For starters, the report button causes work for the moderators.
And creating and implementing a person-rating system doesn't? All it would do is postpone the work that the mods have to do.
You're right, something like this couldn't possibly be implemented and ready to use already.

vBulletin's user reputation system

I'm sure you have all noticed some "noobs" get into the forums and start making some stupid threads/posts. Usually this gets dealt with by people flaming the "noob" until they learn better or get offended & leave the forum. I don't think this is the best approach. So I propose that instead, after someone creates an account, they have a 1-2 week period in which they can't post or make a thread. This will lead to them lurking the forums & they will get an idea of what to do & what not to do on the forums.

Can't people do that as guests?

Rating is a great idea. I'm a member on 3 other forums, and they all have ratings. It is a great idea, and would make people (like me :() think more before they post. I have an extremely bad rep, but I think (you can disagree) that I have been a much better member over the past few weeks, and a rating system would work. Just make it so you can't rate someone more than once in say, 10 minutes, and if a person is continuously rated bad by the community, a message would be sent to the person telling them that, and a message sent to a mod, to check out what's going on. This would prevent someone just rating someone bad out of dislike.

I am loving the idea of a rating system that changes the users "ranking". This would affect many users credibility and use the power of peer pressure to make the member write better posts. Like ZB_FTW said before I think that we should restrict the ratings a person can make on another person to 10 minutes. Maybe if a person gets a certain number of below average rankings a personal message could be sent to the person explaining how to make a good post & not be a "noob".

This is more of a joke but... make a filter so the user can only see post done by people that already have X posts, the actual number of X is setable by the user.

I set it to X = 1000, if I'm bored I may lower it to 500 :D

ZB_FTW!!! I hate you avatar, it is autistic :p

Sure. But there's no reason to make the mods do MORE work. Especially since they're doing it out of their own good will.
