How many cube rotations do you use?

Recently I am interested to see how many cube rotations I can reduce during speedsolving, to the point where I sometimes use longer algorithms (but good for finger-tricks) to achieve that.

How many cube rotations do you use in normal solves? Take these random scrambles to try out.

Scramble: L U' L R2 D' U2 B' D R B' D R2 L B2 R' U2 B2 D' R2 F2 U2 D B' U2 B2

Scramble: D' B U D B2 L F D2 L R' U' L2 R2 F2 U' L R U' R2 B L2 B2 L' R' F'

Scramble: R B' L2 U2 D' F' D B2 R L' D2 L' U2 D' F L' F2 U F R' L' B' F2 R2 F

Scramble: B2 L2 R F' B U2 F2 R L B2 R2 F L2 B2 L R B2 L R2 U2 D L B L R

Scramble: F' L2 U2 R2 F' R2 D2 B2 U2 D2 R2 B2 F2 D2 R2 U' F B' U D2 R' L' F' L U

Hmmmm, with ZZ, I only do a few in the beginning and a few for LL.

With CFOP, i use GRATUITIOUS AMOUNTS of rotations.
More rotations than your body has room for.

I dont need an a5 to tell you I do about 5-12 cube rotations.

5-12 is a broad range - I would say 5 is on the low end and 12 is on the high end, so it's not very specific. Counting for an a5 would be a lot more significant.

I tried solving the scrambles SLOWLY, and this is what I get for move count + cube rotation in parenthesis. I also include the d turns as I consider them semi-cube rotations (slower than normal turns).

Looks decent when done slow, but in actual speed solves I will probably cube rotate like crazy!

I'm not going to do the five random scrambles, but on average I use about 12 cube rotations per solve. And that is for a 3x3. For larger cubes, that figure is much larger.

I'm not totally sure what you mean by rotation (you mean like turning it at all, or actually regripping to end up with a new face as FRUDBL?), and for either of those, it depends on what I'm trying to do (fast, fewest turns, or fun). During a speedsolve, I'll generally do about 5 on average, with usually 2-4 of those being in the last 20 or so turns (a typical speedsolve for me consisting of about 45-55 turns).

Obviously fewest moves requires a lot of rotations for me (I usually record all of my rotations, even if im just tilting in to see B or D, as i loose track often...). Thats highly variable, but almost always over 20.

for fun, almost always between 8 and 11.

I really need to practice inserting pairs from all angles.

I mean when you have to record down x, y, or z.
Then a little less often than I said. I do some tilts sometimes, but don't record them or consider them to be rotations unless i happen to be doing fewest moves or something like that.

These numbers are probably a little skewed from what I would usually get in a solve. While I was counting, I was turning slower than usual, making my lookahead much better and therefore I did not need to do some rotations that I would usually do in order to find certain pieces.

I could easily used no rotations at all since I use roux, but for the first block it's sometimes much more fingerfriendly. Actually I think I was turning a little bit slower than usual, so in a speedsolve it's probably 0-2 cube rotations for me.
