[Help Thread] Turning Accuracy Discussion

Exactly what bomber said. Flick the side hard enough to do slightly more than a full turn, but let a finger on your grip hand stop the side once it has reached the proper alignment.

Chris

Assuming U turns are the only ones you have problems with. i cant see how you would have a problem with anything else though.

D turns and M turns mabye.

I find while doing the double-edge-flip (M' U M' U M' U M' U2 M' U M' U M' U M') my Us are always a little bit past 90 degrees so that the M-slice gets kind of stuck.

My cubing touch is a light touch, serisouly, it doesn't look like I'm flicking it. With my style, I can go on for 2 years with the same stickers. :p

spend less time in collecting cubes and more time trying new things with your cube. You might be faster if you go slower and get a better look ahead. Maybe if you rush with the cube you'll be better. Why not learn another method? All of these will make you significantly faster.

I think the kind of cube you use affects this. What exactly is the problem? It locks up because its not perfectly aligned? Or are you turning way too far and getting an extra 90 degree turn in when you didn't mean to? Or what? Maybe your cube is too loose, and tightening it up some would give you more control.

How to improve turning accuracy?

Hi, my average is around 53 seconds and what really slows me down is my turning accuracy. I get lockups a lot even with my shuang ren v2 because my accuracy is just terrible, and I want to slow down so I don't have so many lockups but I don't want to sacrifice my time. A lot of my algorithms are slow because of it, and I don't know what to do. Help is appreciated, thanks!

Slow down and clean up your turning now, so that you can be faster later. Look ahead will help your times more than TPS will at this stage. Make that your priority.

Will your times take a hit? Absolutely. But if you want to improve, this is the best way at this stage.

If you average 53 seconds the thing that is slowing you down isn't lockups. Trust me I am not even that good but I could certainly sub-40 on a storebought rubiks brand cube. What is really slowing you down is pauses during F2L and maybe even during cross (you should plan the whole cross in inspection)...

Yeah pure practice takes you very far. Until about 25 seconds, you dont need to worry about anything specific.

I was about to literally say tighten your cube and then practice, but then I read Randomno's comment. Spot on. Think of accuracy as being like good handwriting. Some have it, some don't, but everyone can learn to get it. It just takes some practice, drilling algs helps so much not with just accuracy, but overall TPS. Also make sure that your tensions are even, because otherwise it can create weird lockups.
