It appears that my recently bought rubik's brand diy cube makes spring noises even though I place the springs in the logical direction - coiled up side of the spring facing in contact with the plastic and the non coiled side with the end of the spring in contact with the screw. (Refer to picture attached)
Initially I bought machine washers to fit it in between the contact point where the plastic and the screw touches but then realised that the washers I bought were too big. So instead of wasting them, I guessed I'd give it a shot to somehow salvage them. So I placed them where the spring comes in contact with the screw. This DID get rid of the noise completely.
But after an accidental drop, the spring noises were there again. But this problem is only present on a couple sides. I've tried changing the washers. Results were negative.
So I experimented by trying a technique suggested somewhere in the forum by sanding down the non-coiled spring end to make it flat. I've tried this on one side and the results came out positive at first but the spring sounds came back after vigoruous testing (spamming U and U').
Reading that particulat forum topic again, it mentioned that the sanding method was an alternative to the washers. Since the washers were meant to go in between the plastic and the spring, I hypothesised that reversing the directions would solve the problem. It turned out, that that actually solved the problem. BUT, I am uncertain if what I am doing would damage the plastic. So I reverted the spring direction back to the position I assume harmless to the cubies. Obviously the spring noises came back.
After all that effort, I am uncertain of how to solve this issue which has been bugging me for ages.
My questions
-Which way is the correct direction of the spring?
-Are there any mistakes in the method that I have executed? If so, what should be done?
