I was wondering how far you all plan ahead in inspection for different puzzles.
I'll start:

2x2: FL, sometimes entire solve.
3x3: Cross, with an easy scramble an extra pair.
4x4: First 2 centers.
5x5: 2x3 block of first center.
6x6: First 2 lines (2x4 block).
7x7: 2x3 block of first center, just like 5x5.
Pyraminx: OKA block + first center.
Megaminx: 3 or 4 cross pieces.
Square-1: Cubeshape.
Clock: All lucky cases and 2 first turns.
Magic: Entire solve.

Please don't kill me if it has been brought up before. I have searched, but I couldn't find anything.

2^3: orientation, + separation when orientation is easy
3^3 and 4^3: same as 2^3
5^3: middle lines of 2 opposite centers
6^3: 2 lines from the first 2 centers (either 2 of the same or 1 of each)
7^3: same as 5^3
Pyraminx: as much as I can from the first layer
Megaminx: the whole star if possible, at least 4 pieces anyway
Square-1: Cubeshape when I know the case, how to get to a known case when I don't
Clock: first cross

2x2: as much as I can see in 15 seconds
3x3: cross/xcross, a pair if its easy
4x4: first two centers
5x5: 2x3 + an idea of where the other pieces are.
6x6: first 1x4 and any other partial lines.
megaminx: plan 3 star pieces, locate other 2.
pyra: whatever I can see in 15 seconds
sq1: cubeshape and CO if <3 twists
clock: all lucky edge cases, first 2 moves of back face, first 3-4 moves of first face.

2x2x2: ehh... Guimond first step... sometimes also the seperation or what you call it :p
3x3x3: cross...
4x4x4: first center + and idea of where the pieces is for next center xD
pyraminx: All but 3 edges on same layer... :p

2x2: Closest way to solve bottom layer.
3x3: Closest path to finished white cross.
4x4: To solve green centre (always solved first, then blue, purple, yellow. This is for Eastsheen 4x4 colors. This will change a bit when my QJ 4x4 arrives.)
5x5: Easiest starting 3x1 block.
6x6: Not owned as a real puzzle. But if I did, I'd guess it would be the same for the 7x7.)
7x7: Position of black cubies.

2x2: FL, most of the time the orientation type of the CLL, sometimes the whole solve. With Ortega, I mostly see the OLL, and try and work out whether it's an EG I know or not.

3x3: Cross + almost always the first pair. If the cross is easy (3-4 moves or less), working out where other stuff will be after that first pair isn't hard.

4x4: First centre + half of the second usually, then while doing that look for the other 2 pieces.

5x5: As much as possible (usually 2x2x3 block)

Don't do anything else...

2x2: first layer (ortega or LBL)
3x3: cross, 2x2x2, or extended cross
4x4: first centers, maybe sometimes the 2nd
5x5: 2x3 center block
pyraminx: tips+CEC or 1st layer-1 edge.

2x2: first layer
3x3: cross (x-cross if really really obvious)
4x4: first centre, half of second center if easy to see
5x5:2x2 up to full first center, depends on how easy to see
6x6 / 7x7: three or four pieces of one centre
Megaminx: one crross piece at most
Clock: first three turns on both sides, everything but corner clocks if easy to calculate
square-1: first turn at most

2x2: Whole solve. (please don't give me **** about this again)
3x3: Cross and first F2L pair
4x4: First 2 and a half centres
5x5: First centre
Megaminx: First "Star"
Magic: Entire solve
Puck Puzzle: First 2 pairs

2: FL
3: pre-make moves for a 1x2x2 block, then know where the pieces are to extend it to a Roux (1x2x3) block
4:First center full, and memo where pieces will 'about' end up for second center
5:first center and one middle edge center thing for second center
7:3x3
yeah. that's it. I do cubes and magic. Nothing else.

2x2: Whole solve. (please don't give me **** about this again)
3x3: Cross and first F2L pair
4x4: First 2 and a half centres
5x5: First centre
Megaminx: First "Star"
Magic: Entire solve
Puck Puzzle: First 2 pairs

****

Edit:
If you can plan out the whole 2x2x2, you can plan out all 12 edges for the Petro method during inspection. I only believe your claims on the megaminx and magic; don't know what is a puck puzzle.

This is what I do:

2x2 - First layer
3x3 - 3 or 4 pieces of the cross
4x4 - First centre
5x5 - First centre
6x6 - 2x4
7x7 - 2x5
Megaminx - 4/5 pieces of star
Pyraminx - Tips and centres
Clock - 4/5 clocks on the cross
Square 1 - Cube shape
Skewb - First layer
Whip-it! - F2L (12/17 pieces OMG!!!)

Here's one from a nubcake . . .
2x2: First face (for Ortega), and if that's easy, I plan out OLL so I can do both without any pauses.
3x3: *hopefully* whole cross, but sometimes just three edges of it. I fail at preserving F2L pairs, and always screw up my times when I try.
4x4: Oh wait, I don't even have one.
Square-1: Cubeshape.

That's all I have :(
I want a skewb.
