Do you start with the same color every time? (was: General question)

being color neutral is only good if you practice it. it slowed me down when first started but after about a week I was back to normal times.

I'm not a beginner, but not extremely fast either. I just think this would be the place for this question.

I was watching Yu Nakajima's videos of him just annihilating his cubes.
I noticed he build's his blue cross first most of the time. I didn't see that part, because it's on the bottom, but most of the time he had white for OLL going on. I thought this was a beginner trait, and that the extremely advanced solvers start on whatever is mostly done. Perhaps I'm wrong?

I normally do the blue cross first, too. For me it's just easiest to recognize the rest of color orientations. I tried a red cross once, and try to haul *** through it, but it slowed me way down.

What about all of you. Do you normally start on the same color?

Most people start using the same colour every time, or else some people use what we call opposite colour cross. This means that they can do one colour, and the opposite (usually they do the opposite if they see it will be easy, and their normal colour is bad).
The other option is, as you say, to use any colour. Personally, this is what I do. I can make the cross on any colour. Usually I just go for what I immediately see. However not many people use this technique. The best user of this is probably Rowe Hessler, who once held the WR for 3x3 single solve.

I'm color neutral since I started to speedcubing and it never slow me down ;)

You already said you are color neutral. You don't need reply to someone else to say it again to prove how terrific you are at life.

Well of course; if you've never tried anything else, what would it slow you down from? What if you find that focusing on one color actually speeds you up? But you wouldn't know that, because you haven't tried.

I am 100% color neutral. I most credit that you figuring it out myself. Once I could get a side I'd just do it on whatever was easiest.(You should have seen my try to figure it out. I took crazy notes before I knew notation).

A lot of people use fixed cross so that they have more time to start looking for F2L pairs, rather than am extra second or two to find an easy cross.

White cross 98% of the time, yellow cross 1.5% of the time, any other color because I feel like having a fun solve that isn't very fast 0.5% of the time.

If it wasn't important for this discussion...then why add it?
Because he doesn't do a CROSS.

That's great...but I didn't ask about a CROSS. I asked about color. Chill out.

He doesn't use Friedrich at the moment, so his first layer is part of a method that not as many people are familiar with. That's why he didn't say it was important, because he would rather stay on topic than start a discussion on EOLine.

Yes true...but using any method you can start on the same color again, and again. Especially if you're new at it. Whenever I mess around with Petrus method, still tinker with the cubes with blue on them.
*off topic* That last comment I made ("chill out") was really toward guy typing in caps. That just got on my nerves ;)

I think most people are either 1 color, 2 opposites, or completely neutral.

Me? white/yellow neutral
(used to be blue/green, but I realized I'm half colorblind)
