Do you start with the same color every time? (was: General question)

I'm not a beginner, but not extremely fast either. I just think this would be the place for this question.

I was watching Yu Nakajima's videos of him just annihilating his cubes.
I noticed he build's his blue cross first most of the time. I didn't see that part, because it's on the bottom, but most of the time he had white for OLL going on. I thought this was a beginner trait, and that the extremely advanced solvers start on whatever is mostly done. Perhaps I'm wrong?

I normally do the blue cross first, too. For me it's just easiest to recognize the rest of color orientations. I tried a red cross once, and try to haul *** through it, but it slowed me way down.

What about all of you. Do you normally start on the same color?

I always do cross on White (actually EOLine on White, but that's not important for this discussion)

Just pick a method already!!!!

anyway, I think most people do the same cross color everytime, although there are a few exceptions here and there.

It's really hard. I'm fastest at Fridrich, it's my only sub-20 method. Roux is really nice because of the major intuition, only one step requires algorithms. ZZ is really great because of the 3-gen F2L... I can't decide.

Oh, and then there's Petrus, my first method, and that's the method I used in my first competition. It's the method I've used most, I was using it for 3 years before I started speedcubing.

If it wasn't important for this discussion...then why add it?

I know about the many different methods there are, but type of methods are irrelevant to the question.

I'm only curious if most cubers start on the same color most of the time.

Thanks again :)

I'm yellow white color neutral. Since I use Petrus (yes this is relevant), I can make any color 2x2x2 on the cube. After that I only use 2 expansion directions but from the beginning you can technically say I start at any color.

I only solve blue side/cross first. Never had sub-20, but have had a 21 second solve, then again I don't do intuitive F2L, I do the algorithm one because I am faster at it. I am learning intuitive F2L though.

I never tried using anything other than white cross when I use fridrich. Black for my v-cubes but it doesn't really mess me up or anything.

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't being color neutral for fridrich only useful for the cross?? I believe it was like 1 move lower than sticking to only one color. But after the cross there really doesn't seem to be any advanage to being color neutral.

Oh and about Nakajima using blue cross. He uses blue ALL the time. Not most of the time.

That seems to make sense
Well I said most of the time, cuz I like only once he didn't but it wasn't his normal color scheme. :P

I only do cross on white side because my F2l is slow with any other color. I'll start the F2l and think:Which color is on bottom, what top color should I ignore?, and get confused. When I read the original post, I was thinking Blue opposite white?! but then I remembered Japanese color scheme and the fact that Nakajima is Japanese.

Yes, being color neutral makes me slower.

No, trying to be color neutral makes you slower. If you are slower because of using different color crosses, that just means you aren't color neutral.

Anyway, I usually do cross on white, but about 5% of my solves are cross on yellow. I NEVER do cross on anything else. This is just for 3x3 though. While I usually start with white or yellow, I can do more, depending on what puzzle it is.

I have given up on my 2/3s color neutral thing. I used to be able to do Green, Blue, Yellow, and white. Not red or orange because i am a little color blind. But I have decided on choosing just one color and im trying to decide between white and blue.

I only use white and have never used anything else. I find that white is the brightest color and is the easiest to see when inspecting. I've tried using the other colors, but it just takes so much longer to sink into my mind the different configurations.
