I've gone out and bought some CRC Heavy Duty silicone spray (the exact same stuff as here: http://www.crcindustries.com/auto/content/...x?PN=05074&S=N). I noticed that it does have some petroleum ingredients in it, but I suspect most silicone sprays do. The above site says that it's silicone based.

My cube is a store-bought Rubik's brand one that I've solved many times in the past six weeks. Before I lube my cube, does anyone think I'll have any problems with the petroleum ingredients? I don't think so, but thought I might as well check before I accidentally destroy my cube.

As long as it's mostly silicon, it won't be terrible. It seems that the storebought cubes are much tougher than, for example, studio cubes - I know my friends have used WD-40 and similar things, although not for more than a few weeks, and their cubes are fine. A test that I've heard people use is to put some on a surface of one cubie and check with a Q-tip to see if it is becoming gray/black, in which case it's eating the plastic.

The whole petroleum thing is overblown - it takes years for it to eat through your cube. Besides, petroleum is any hydrocarbon within a certain range, and is an ingredient in many products, including plastic. So...don't worry, it's less than 0.1% of your solution.

Arakron, I think that's lube that's rubbing off. Try it.

Because it will fuse pieces. You need to spread it out and allow it to dry properly. I had to partially take apart my v7 because I didn't use it enough/quickly enough after lubing it.

3. Leave alone until the same time next day.

That isn't necessary

But it will turn into the Smoothest you've ever seen it.

I can't see smooth. But why would it make a difference? Is there an actual reason, or are you just saying that?

No clue why, but it works wonderfully. I love the feeling, until it is taken apart or has a really bad pop, then it gets stickier. Then just let it sit again. And sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't.

But that's just my type C.

Okay, you're not really making any sense now. Whenever a piece comes out at all, your cube becomes sticky? And then you let it sit some more and it magically fixes itself, or it just decides not to?

I don't know exactly how it works. I am just reporting my experiences, whether they make sense or not. Now that I think of it a little more, the cube usually does not fix itself, unless the lube is still pretty new.

But it always becomes smoother after letting the cube "Rest for awhile."

I used a silicone spray with petroleum in it and it destroyed my storebought. If possible try jigaloo or before purchasing make sure there isnt petroleum in the lube. if there is then make sure its a small trace.

My stickers (cubesmith) basically dissolved after using a petroleum based silicone spray.

If I lube my 3x3x3 I spray a little silicon on two sides, do one or two solves and take it apart to dry

when lubing my V-cubes I just take them apart, put all pieces in a cloth bag and shake the bag while spraying lube in it, after drying for 30 minutes I put everything back together, solve a few times to get the lube off the stickers and it seems to work

I never heard of this cloth bag thing before, sounds quiet strange ;)
