hiho folks!

I'm 19 and live in austria (the little country in europe with mountains, snow and joddeling :P)

I've started cubing about 3 weeks ago. Someone in my school brought a rubiks cube with him and i remembered seeing one of those objects lying around at my house since i can think.
First, i just wanted to solve it once to achieve this indescribable feeling of success.

I started of with watching beginner method-video to actually figure out how that thing works. So i did it over and over again, replaced my old shitty cube with a brand new one. Once day my dad even brought me some silicone spray, since i cryed around that petroleum jelly and graphit messed up the cube rather then make it smoother :p

Well, so about 3 weeks since i've done my first cube, i've somehow improved in speed. I use the following steps to solve my cubi: cross (i always start of with white), then use the f2l of the fridrich method, and finally cross on top, allign sides and then do the corners. My average has dropped to about 1:10-1:30 (my best was 0:52, i got lucky somehow).

Eventhough i have my final exams coming up, i was willing to spend some time to learn some algorythms - it somehow got a bit boring doing it the same old way, over and over again.

so i try to do the last layer in a 3-look OLL (i found a video about that in some other forum) and then 2-look PLL - i can do it, not too fast though (still rather slows me down than improves my times)

Anyhow, does anybody of you know a technique or solving methode which can improve my time without having to learn like 60 algorythms?
It's not the problem to learn them, but as a said, exams coming up etc.
Also i would rather enjoy understanding the cube, than learning an algorythm for every single situation that can occur on the last layer.

So what are your experiences - how did you get to where you are now (i bet there are some superfast cubers among you:D). any tips, tricks? or should i forget speedcubing coz i (at the moment) cant be bothered to learn algos off by heart? :(

Well, thanks for reading and peace out!

Welcome! I wouldn't be called "superfast" but I'll tell you this. Take your time with new algorithms. Learn 3-look LL and practice a lot

um hes just a beginner, yes 3 look last layer is a goal but jcuber averages like 24 seconds and he doesnt know 3 look last layer.

but anyway, welcome to these forums! if you have any questions all you have to do is ask. what i recomend from learning 3 look OLL is you can learn 2 look OLL, ill provide some links to you with some great F2L videos and two 2 look OLL videos. and on your F2L, just go slow and look ahead.

F2L
a list of awsome badmehisto

plurple 73 (this is where i learned and badmephisto helped)

lance the blue knight

2 look OLL

badmephisto

lance the blue knight

hope i could help :D

hehe thx for the links gparker. im pretty decent at f2l already. i guess ill go get started with 2 oll then :)

and hi kickflip. im from vienna =))

I'm also from vienna.. which district? =)

You should learn "4 look last layer" from badmephisto's tutorials and practice until you got a 35-40 seconds average.

Welcome! You are lucky, that you started with Friedrich F2L, I started with LBL and it took me forever to change to it... And btw, what it 3 look OLL? I only know 2 look OLL xD

i live in the 10th district. finally my written exams are over and im back to propper cubing :D
hey cubernaut,

about 2 weeks ago, maybe 1 there was a sudoku meetup in veinna
i was one of the speedcubers there
have you been there?

ahh i heard about the competition, but i thought it was only for sudoku ... :-/
how did you do, are there a lot of cubers in vienna? :D

es war keine comp, sondern eher nur ein treffen^^
die 3 der 4 besten cuber aus österreich waren da.
Also ich bin auf megaminx spezialisiert und hab ein paar leute beeindrucken können^^
