Hello hello hello, it is me, your favourite member on the forums

anyway, the social media ban in the UK, estimated to occur in Spring 2027 will be preventing under 16s from accessing some forms of social media, such as snapchat.
Now, I don't really use much social media, so I am not that annoyed about it, but I do use these forums quite a lot and was wondering if it applied to the forums.

It isn't too much of an issue for me, as I will be 15 by then, and there's always the idea of it being delayed by a couple more months, so I might even be 16.
But I am one of the older British kids on the forum (I think, haven't met anyone 16-18), so it will affect others more.

(I did look to see if this was asked before, but found nothing. apologies if this has been though)

Same ban happened here in Australia almost a year ago now, but I’ve been just fine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Short answer: no - this forum doesn't fall under the definition given on the .gov website.
haven't met anyone 16-18

Idc about the ban I’m changing my age on everything

ok but you realise that in order to actually have the ban they need apps/electronics to have software that does one of the following :

- A - Checks the person's age via sending the app a photo of ID, or face scan (ID more likely)
- B - Software inside the app that determines age based off of what you do on the system (not likely but has been mentioned I think).

There is still a chance this is scrapped, it is VERY controversial, and if other things such as expanding age for votes to 16+ go through it could mean that parties like labour who want this get less votes. Although a majority of adults want this added, there is major pushback due to how it will strip people of their privacy and essentially allow the government to have a monopoly (in the sense that they could theoretically control what a person is met with regarding ads or videos on smth like YT).
