So I have decided to host a method development competition for this year so we can get 2026 off to a great start in the method development community. There is a poll for which puzzle the method will attempt to solve. Since we all love cubing so much, poll will close on Valentine’s Day. To register just say so in the thread. Registration ends on February 21st. The comp will close around the end of March, but it could also depend on how fast you guys can make the methods. I’ll try to be as flexible as possible for times and anything in the comp.
Criteria:
No silly joke methods, please try to make something that is at least partially viable. It doesn’t have to be a breakthrough or really good, but it must show effort and critical thinking. It also must be original. No variants of other methods, but taking inspiration is fine as long as it is original, like APB from Petrus, or 42 from Roux.
Grading:
Grading will be based on three criteria:
1. Originality (30 pts): How original and unique the method is
2. Viability (40 pts): How realistic it is to be viable for competitive speedsolving
3. Completion (30 pts): How thorough the research was (like completing alg genning, having precise stats on the method, providing example solves and averages)
If anyone wants to be a judge, please comment so, I will take 2-3 more judges to help decide scores with me.

If you all want another one later this year, my schedule will literally be open for like whole year. I’m never really that busy and I’m on almost every day, so I can do more if you guys would like that.
Good luck!! (BTW teams and solos are allowed)

Have you ever gotten a REALLY lucky scramble, where you start with a semi-solved cube?
I got this scramble for the 2x2x2 form JNetCube timer:
L B2 D L D2 L' D F' U' R F2 D B2 U' F' L D F' U2 R2 B R' B2 U' F2
Anybody have any?

I'll start with a warning: much of this post will be speculative and purely based on commonalities which appear to exist in all decent methods (in my experience anyway). As such, I will structure it in 3 parts: prerequisite ideas, reasonably concrete and immediate consequences and then blatant and wild speculation. Feel free to stop reading and ignore me if you think I've gone off the deep end halfway through the post.
Firstly, this idea is based on an "inversion" of my top-down vs bottom-up method classification strategies. In summary, the basic idea is that most methods (and as...

Hello everybody! This is the official start to the method development competition 2023! This year’s event is 3x3. You can now start making your method for the competition, make sure not to share any ideas with anyone outside of the team. The competition ends once either everyone submits their methods or the 30 day maximum time period expires. Also remember this has to be a new method not a method you created before!
Enter your methods here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdOm3W13vvxNgWD2VxaemBqxLbXRQQNr5CJvu2PB0n1-YNm2A/viewform
