When I tried to solve a 4x4x4 I didn't use reduction. I just adjusted a beginners layer-by-layer method to multiple layer. Without learning anything new I could solve it entirely, unless I had parity (in that case I "just moved" 1 center to the next one and started over. I didn't understand why, but that way I solved OLL parity everytime)Megaminx would be much harder than a 4x4 for a beginner in my opinion. A beginner wouldn't know the concept of OLL and PLL so it would get really confusing at the LL.

MegaMinx wasn't a problem at all. I just used a 3x3x3 layer-by-layer method and the same system as I still use for the last layer:
Edge-OLL: FRUR'U'F'
Edge-PLL: Sune(s)
Corner-OLL: (RUR'U')*2 one at a time
Corner-PLL: R'D'R (Ux) R'DR (Ux) etc, one at a time
