Using a mousepad as a mat??

Ordered a 70cm×30cm MSI mousepad...
3mm thick (how thick are speedcubing mats in general??)

Yes. Same exact material.
They're also better than vinyl roll-up mats for chess because they lay flat.

Because I play pokemon cometativly I have like 15 or so playmats that I also use for speedsolving. However idk the WCA rules on all that.

yep its the same exact material and thickness. just dont get an extremely cheap one with edge stitching since it will fray and get ugly.

wca competitions provide their own mats. they are the ones that speedstacks makes to be compatible with the g5 so that it locks in. despite how cool it looks, they wont let you use a pokemon mat XD

Oh I used to use a mousepad as my cubing mat. Now I use my mat as a mousepad

I do that all the time, and they work. I even use my speedcubing mats as mousepads! They're interchangeable.
