How to turn faster without actually learning any new finger tricks

If the title confused you I’m sorry so basically how do you turn faster without improving like basically take an energy drink or something. This may be a bit of a dumb question tho.
Turning slower and focusing on look-ahead will actually help you to turn faster. Since the slower you turn, the easier you can find the next pieces you want to solve, so trying to get your look-ahead as good as possible will allow you to turn faster without needing to learn new fingertricks. Though I would strongly recommend improving your fingertricks and turning in general since it is a very fundamental part of solving, so by not working on it you are setting yourself up for a tough time improving in the future. Bad habits are hard to break, so don't push them aside when trying to improve, it will only make it harder the quicker you get. But if you really don't want to learn fingertricks, then start by doing slow turning solves while looking at the next steps, so looking at your next F2L pair while doing one, and you will eventually learn how to look for and find your next pieces quicker, and you will be able to turn at a higher speed while maintaining the same level of lookahead.

yeah you're right, that is a pretty dumb question. just learn fingertricks and practice

It's not a dumb question and I'm surprised no one has given the obvious answers.
Start with sexy-move R U R' U'. Use a stackmat or csTimer and do 10 sexy moves in a row and then stop the timer (all 10, as part of the same timing sequence).
It should only take a few seconds. Repeat this 100 times, each time focusing on just doing it faster than the last time. (i.e. 10 x100 = 1000 sexy moves).
If you do 100 reps per day (1000 sexy moves at max possible speed), your nerve firing speed will increase in your fingers and your time to do 10 sexy moves will greatly decrease.
Now to put things in perspective, try the same exercise with your left hand (L U' L' U). Most likely you will find your neuro-firing response is worse on your left hand, so drill the left side until it is close to the right side.

Next, perform the same exercise with different trigger 4-move triggers (other R/U combos, then introduce R/U/F or R/U/D). Within a month your TPS will drastically increase without learning any new finger tricks.

This exercise only works if you try intensely with your brain to move your fingers faster and faster each time.

No, it is a dumb question and the "obvious answers" that you have stated are flawed.
Doing drills to improve raw turning speed without focusing on proper fingertricks is a huge recipe for disaster. Your turning will be locky, inaccurate, and slow. This is true of the method that you suggested. Doing 1000 sexy moves daily without using the proper fingertricks is a very counterproductive method of improving TPS. It's possible that, in isolation (ex. during certain algs), your turning might be faster, but it builds bad habits and promotes very sloppy solving. You'll lock up a lot, and it won't help much at all. Focusing on mastering the necessary fingertricks and performing turns fluidly is much better for improvement.

I guess it depends on which fingertricks you already know vs which ones are new. This is a good way to reinforce your current fingertricks for good or for ill, so it's worth double checking that your current fingertricks are correct.

Most cubers that are sub-20 already have pretty good finger tricks, but their TPS might still be really slow; it is when you already know all the finger tricks and find your TPS is still slow, that pure repetition with intensive concentration pays off.

this is what i did, gsingh can confirm I turn like an angry gremlin. I'm stuck averaging around 9.5~ and I'm never going to get faster unless I relearn the right fingertricks which would probably take forever and I don't care enough. if you actually want to be good cubing use the right fingertricks; if you don't care then do whatever makes you happy in the long run I guess.

hard disagree. This would only work if you already knew good finger tricks beforehand. Doing what you have suggested without learning finger tricks would create bad habits.

not “most cubers”. I see a lot of sub-20 solvers regrip for every R move and every L move. Some of them don’t even know how to double flick. I’ve critiqued a few cubers and I usually always see a problems with their turning (finger tricks/regrips)
