Good luck to both of you yo!

[bldcuber314]

So I've been grinding 5BLD, some fast attempts(no successes there, so PB is still 12:05, slower than my global) and also some safeties.

Safety attempt 1- I made an exec error in a safety solve. What's even the point of safetying?!

Safety attempt 2 and 3- Both off by a few pieces because I lost focus during exec.

Safety attempt 4- I finally managed to find a camera angle where I could see what moves I was doing, so I recorded this attempt as I've been making a consistent exec error on a bunch of solves, and I wanted to see where I was messing up. And I got a success . Time was 16:30, comfortably sub-NR mean.

Could I join to? I have like a 20 min global

Added(I found next comp with a WCA database query from the forums)

I might be able to go to Great Lakes Champs 2025 in Illinois(August 1-3), this would change my strategy for Weston-super-Mare as to qualify for 5BLD(and same thing for 4BLD), you need an official success, so even if I DNF a 5BLD this would give me reason to still safety for a success.

NOOO

it's ok, I got a 1:00.15 PR 3bld single (major lockup out of sub 1) and 8/8 42:30 PR/overall PB MBLD single

also 32, 38, 32 in FMC for 34.00 PR2 mean (day 2 hopefully also good)

[bldcuber314]

Sub Japanese NR 5BLD mean!!! I've had sub NRs before(OK in 2 events), but in things like Pyra single where I do hundreds of solves and get a lucky scramble. This is my first sub NR that feels possible in comp! Also WR105 if official, hopefully I can roll to get that under 100.

Registered for Weston-super-Mare Spring, my first comp with 5BLD!

[bldcuber314]

Registered for Peterborough Odd Day 2025(May 11), which has 5BLD! The cumulative limit is 45 mins though, so I'm working to push my safety attempts sub 15. Also after not being able to practice 5BLD for a while due to my 5x5 being in pieces, it's finally back together so I did my first 2 attempts(safeties). The first was a DNF because I forgot a wing pair(and I changed how I memo a bit to combat this), and the second was a 13:17.58 with 7:15 memo, which is actually really good considering it was a safety. Hopefully by Peterborough I'll be able to comfortably safety sub-15 while reviewing a bit more, since my first attempt was a DNF because of forgetting memo. Also Peterborough should hopefully give me another chance to qualify for Great Lakes and UKC, in case something goes wrong at Weston-super-Mare and I don't get a success there.

Awesome! @SkewbIsTheBestEvent I am in the final stages of organizing my comp which will have 4/5BLD from 8-10am lol (then it's just a normal comp from there)

[bldcuber314]

I've been continuing to grind 5BLD(like 40 mins of practice every morning) and I'm definitely improving! Because of the 45 minute cumulative at Peterborough, I've been working on my speed, so did 2 fast attempts this morning. The first was 11:14[4:55] off by 2+ 2w. My mistakes in this attempt and what I changed to combat this-

I did the wrong setup for one of my targets, so I fixed that setup.
I missed a 2 piece wing cycle, so I'm checking if I hit every target more slowly now.
I blanked out at the start of wings(managed to recall but wasted a lot of time), so I'm doing something I'm calling 'trigger pair' where I really concentrate on remembering the first wing pair(I've forgotten first wing pair multiple times recently) and memo it almost as a seperate part of memo as well as part of wings. Once I've remembered the first pair, I've found it's not too hard to recall everything else.

So I did another attempt(this one was completely all out for speed). I managed to memo in 4:27, which is my fastest ever, but unfortunately made 5 mistakes(3 were one wrong move, not sure on other 2) and got a 9:21 DNF. I managed to recall smoothly though and think sub 10 is definitely within reach! Also this attempt was sub UKC 2024 podium(which was slower than usual), so maybe that could be a goal for this year or next year(I'll prioritise NR mean) depending on my improvement. Even though I won't be able to make national podium because I don't represent the UK, a UKC podium would still be great.

My final attempt this morning was a safety practice, I reviewed a lot and memoed slowly(7:29 memo). The attempt was really smooth, and I got a 12:55 PB2 single(because my PB is still like 3 minutes slower than my best DNF lol). I think the 45 minute cumulative at Peterborough won't be an issue, I can safety(even make some mistakes) and still get in under the limit easily. Also this means that at comps with 1 hour limit across 4BLD and 5BLD, I'll have time to do 4BLD as well.

Long analysis ramble thing over

Also @abunickabhi @pjk @xyzzy @Mike Hughey can you move this thread to Cubing Progression?

[Thomas.Caleb]

Nice

[bldcuber314]

When I got my first 5BLD mean earlier I didn't roll it so that when I got faster I could more comfortably roll it to be sub WR100. Now my safeties average 12 minutes, so I rolled it and got a 12:36 single, making the mean 15:20! WR96 if official! Hopefully I can keep rolling it.

[bldcuber314]

Rolled it again, twice(I now have 6 successes in a row for this session), I think I have a higher 5BLD success rate than 3BLD now. This mean would be WR74, AsR18 and NR if official! I also think I'll start doing more compsims to get used to 3 solves in one go, because the first solve in this mean was from yesterday.

I've been trying to get a good single(even though PB is 12:05 I'm just straight up going for sub 10 lol) and got an 8:30 DNF with 3:59 memo, 3 mistakes off. Hopefully sub 10 soon!
