#Free2x2

i think they made the decision because yiheng is chinese and they would rather piss off everyone than look potentially racist. Also they show tons of favoritism to yiheng in general
The thing is it's wrong to conclude that everytime a decision doesn't favorite a person of color that it is racist, sometimes that might be the case but in this case DNFing the 0.78 would have been the most obvious decision. The problem could be that yiheng is finding a bunch of loopholes and unfortunately for some reason the board isn't doing the most logical thing

The 0.78 standing is preferential treatment towards Yiheng. I feel like legal action could be taken here (I don’t necessary know what law, if any, has been broken tho.)

(Also, wouldn’t Yiheng still have a WR anyway? Like the WCA board should know that, assuming their main concern is taking records from Yiheng, then he’d still have a 0.90 wr average…)

Also, signed the petition

So just to be clear, the goal of this petition is to have the WCA/WDC dnf the .78 average and ban sliding, right? I’m not so good at interpreting things so I wanted to ask that.
yes that is the goal because other competitors are not allowed to slide while Yiheng is sitting over here with his 0.78 2x2 average with sliding

The petition intends to convince the WCA board to reverse their decision to allow the 0.78 "world record" 2x2 average to stand. Despite WRC ruling in favor of DNFing or otherwise applying a penalty to the entire average, the board has abused their power by completely reversing that decision that should have been left to the regulations committee.

Sliding is already banned, which makes this whole situation even more infuriating since the announcement that this record would stand was made on a thread on the WCA forums that mentioned that all national, continental, and world records could now be scrutinized frame-by-frame by the WRC, but not the 0.78 average for some reason.

That’s more confusing but I got the idea now.

Please sign this petition if you want to protest the decision by the WCA Board to overrule the WCA Regulations Committee's unanimous decision to penalize the 0.78 2x2 average. This move means that the illegal 0.78 sliding result will stand, but anybody else who slides in the future will be penalized. It is absurd to allow sliding for a World Record but then tell people they cannot slide to try and beat it.

Honestly, favoritism and the new regimental nature of cubing are reasons I don't like cubing anymore. Cubing doesn't feel like a fun, competitive hobby anymore; it's just a toxic mess of sponsorships and young kids getting high-level coaching. Now, scandalous decisions from higher boards are something else getting thrown into this mix.

I miss the 2010s so much. To me, that was the golden age of this hobby. I miss the days where the best cubers were individuals with lots of passion, and weren't trained into the hobby. I don't think we will see those days ever again.

Things like this scandal tell me that cubing is slowly dying. It breaks my heart. I know people aren't likely to look favorably upon my opinion, but I'm tired of being quiet.

Edit: I wouldn't say cubing is dying in terms of popularity, but it's definitely losing the soul that made the hobby so special in the first place.
