Could someone point me in the right direction for averaging sub-2:30 on 6x6?
I currently average just under 3:30, so I am aiming for some crazy improvement.
I am sub 2:30 on 6x6 and these are some tips that have helped me get there. 1. Turn fast, this probably one of the most basic tips you can give to someone but it is one of the most effective ones you can give for big cubes, not necessarily 3x3. For me, the bigger the cube is and the longer it takes the slower I tend to turn so you just have to get past that mental barrier and you will start to see progress. 2. Practice, practice, practice. Big cubes require a lot of practice so try to do solves whenever you can. 3. (now let's start the "real" tips) Try to limit the amount of commutators you have to do on the last two centers. The most you should have to do is one commutator per solve (doing two commutators on a lucky last two centers isn't bad, but try to avoid it whenever possible. 4. Whenever you are finishing first two centers try to look ahead to your first Yau cross edge. 5. When doing the Yau cross, don't look at the piece you are currently solving and instead, look for pieces of the same color that you can pair up next. This gets better with practice. 6. Do casual solves of the Yau cross and try to find more efficient ways of solving it. Watching example solves of it also help. (I'm just saying this because this was the step I struggled with the most when switching to Yau) 7. Practice being able to do the last four centers fast and efficiently without worrying about messing up the Yau cross. It should be muscle memory. 8. When you insert the last Yau cross edge after finishing centers do not bring the cross edge to the top layer and then insert it and instead bring the slot under the edge when it is in the middle layer and do something like F R F' R' or R U R U' R2 if the white is facing you and do R' F' R F if the white is facing to the right. These algs can also be mirrored if it is on the left side. 9. Try to limit the amount of the flipping algorithm when doing the first 4 edges and again look for pieces of the same color instead of the one you are solving. 10. During last 4 edges you can do a thing called cycles which can be setup with something like R U' R2' U' R and the back slots should be filled and then you can solve it with "cycles" from there.
is a good video covering it but it isn't perfect. You could also do something like this:
which is also good. I think I covered everything that I wanted to say and to finish it off, I will send an ao5 that I did with splits to give you an understanding of how fast you need to go to get sub 2:30.
Split one is first two centers, split two is the 3 Yau cross edges, split three is last 4 centers + last cross edge, split four is first 4 edges, split 5 is last 4 edges and split 6 is 3x3 stage. I also added what parity cases I got. Usually I want to get first two centers done in 30 seconds and be done with Yau stage sub 1:30 (you can be around there and still get sub 2:30 so it varies) and finish the solve under sub 2:30 (of course.) It is also good to remember that these are not universal, splits can vary between person to person and solve to solve.

I obviously spent a long time making this post and I hope the things that I covered are relevant to you and help you get faster at 6x6 and achieve your goal of being sub 2:30.
@Dylan K, may I use some of this to make a YT video on how to be either sub-4 or sub-5 (can you help me pick one, neither exist that I know of) on 6x6 with Yau?

Sure man go ahead, I don't see why not. The more people that can be helped, the better! Personally, I think that "how to be sub 5 on 6x6" might appeal more to beginners but if you want to do sub 4 more I don't see a problem with that either.
